There was an article on Heartland College Sports with a quote from a Texas prep player who committed to OU over UT. The gist of his quote was, Texas's recruiting pitch to him was all about how he could promote himself and make the most money on his NIL if he went there. Veneble's pitch for OU to him was, come here and get ready for the next level and win a national title. The recruit said the decision was easy. He told the Texas recruiter, "but what are you doing to fix the program?" He went on to say that high school/college athletes basing their decisions off short term money are fooling themselves.
