I'm guessing that Fred Hoiberg had to at some point but I'm glad he's now so confident ...

The Bulls got the preseason W and their fanbase is probably too excited about some exhibition results but it is an intriguing team. It hit me that Caruso, Ball and Matty Ice - All 2021-22 Bulls - were all on that LA Lakers summer team that won that tournament - those guys have to know that the Ice Man can shoot it because he went like 14 for his last 19 in that summer league.

Tonight, Matt was about the 11th man off the bench, if that means anything, and had a total of 8 2nd-half and had 8 points on 3-8 shooting. After that cold stretch he had with the Jazz, I'd love to see him have some 5-6 performances.

Monte started and hit a 3 in the first minute or so. That game is still in progress as is the LA Lakers game.

Fansided side Sixer Sense's grade on Georges' performance last night:

  • Georges Niang: A
16 mins | 16 pts | 2 reb | 3 ast | 1 stl | 0 blk | 0 TO | 6-11 FG | 4-7 3PT| 0-0 FT | 3 PF | +19 |

Niang appears to be the varsity version of Mike Scott. He knocks down open shots and has some sneaking playmaking in his repertoire. From the backup power forward position, Niang ought to be a sight for sore eyes from fans who had long been reeling for more from the departed Mike Scott.

(I think they mean "sneaky")

Monte started but this looks like it was a game that Malone wanted to evaluate some other guards. Tae had 8 PT in 15 MIN with 2 AST and 0 TO.

Dang - high-flyin' Talen:

Nice underhand oop from THT:

So Talen played most of the 2nd half for the Lakers in a preseason loss to the GSW. He ended with 17 points and must have been going hard to the rim, because he was 6-9 in FT.

It will be interesting to see if Bones Hyland ends up being the real deal for Denver. He had a phenomenal summer league and looks good during the pre-season. That team needs another bucket getter, especially with Barton being injury prone.

True; that's one thing Murray does so well and he's not coming back anytime soon. Bones had 18 pts in the 3Q in this one. My son is following Bones b/c some kid that he saw or knew from AAU played with him at VCU. Plus, that's a cool nickname.

If he can score, Monte will find him.

Fansided's Pippen Ain't Easy had some comment on Matt Thomas' chances to stick with the Bulls (who seem to have a stable of guards):

Meanwhile, guard Matt Thomas hasn’t put up great numbers at 9.5 points per game and shooting just 36.4 percent from downtown, but he’s a career 41 percent three-point shooter.

Green and Johnson are both under contract, but Thomas is only on a training camp deal. Perhaps they can convince him to take a two-way contract but they are deep at guard. He would be more of a luxury than necessity, bordering on redundant with Coby White still coming off of the bench.

Nader vs. THT in pre-season hoops tonight. Matt should be in action as well for the Bulls tonight.

Highlights from Georges' 16-point preseason outing for the Sixers - check out the 2nd clip; it's good to see him creating off the dribble and hitting the old man jump hook:

Dang, that ESPN article says THT might be out for 2 months with his thumb injury. I was looking forward to seeing how the Lakers used him.

Nader had another efficient pre-season game last night for the Suns -- 8 PT on 3-4 shooting.

Matt was 0-2 in clean-up time in the 4th quarter for the Bulls. Not sure he's going to get a roster spot.

This article says that Matt Thomas could snag one of the Bulls' last roster spots ... at the expense of a Hawkeye. Blurbs:

The Chicago Bulls have officially parted ways with undrafted free agent Ethan Thompson and second-year center Daniel Oturu ....

Now, unless the team decides to look elsewhere last minutes, Alize Johnson, Stanley Johnson, Matt Thomas, and Tyler Cook will duke it out for three of the final four roster slots ...

Stanley Johnson and Matt Thomas have struggled to show as much, but the upside each possess as a specialist (Stanley on defense and Thomas behind the arc) could keep them around. Cook, on the other hand, might be on the outside looking in, as he’s seen only 12 total minutes of action this preseason.

Watched parts of that game. The Sixers were down 6 players for various reasons so Georges got plenty of playing time (22 minutes). I realize it is preseason, but he and the rest of the Sixers looked really good. They dominated the Nets. He looks like he fits in well there.
Georges is the type of guy that fits in almost everywhere. Great to have been able to watch him for 4 years as a Cyclone. He reps ISU well.

I watched most of that game as well. He looks so much quicker now than his ISU days and his release is so fast. Had 3 assists in his first shift. I think he's going to get decent PT there and will be able to create more than with Jazz, with all the creators they had.

Simmons seems to be coming back and he often guards the 4, so that probably impacts Georges' minutes.

Reports out of LA are that the operation on THT's thumb went well and that it will be evaluated in 4 weeks, so that's the earliest he could come back (though I imagine it's unlikely). The team doesn't even seem to be sure when he injured it.

Bummer for Talen.

Sorry for the late post but Doc Rivers said George’s Niang was an asset to his team?

I’d freak if Doc said that about my game. I’m living vicariously through you Georges!

I think Doc is very positive about Georges' game and thinks they got real value on the free agent market with what they spent on him.

When Georges was in the lineup in their last preseason game, the ball really moved (not all on Georges; part of that had to do with the absence of Ben Simmons).
