The 40 is a funny thing... it has value as a metric but is often overemphasized.

This article (United States Olympic Committee - The NFL treats 40-yard dash times as sacred) is pretty fascinating and tears down a lot of the popular ideas about the 40.

I always get a good laugh out of that article. It clearly states that the race was broken down into ten meter intervals, lists the sixty and fifty meter times--then lists the 40 time as yards. It was a metric breakdown.

Johnson actually ran 40 meters in 4.38 seconds. Anyone care to calculate just how many yards that was?

Looks like we may have as many recruits as Nebraska now...

Soft verbal may mean he has to make the trip after the quiet period (10 Jan - 5 Feb).

40 times are very inflated. I remember Lamarcus Hicks ran a 4.84 in predraft workouts, which shocked me....and yet he's in the NFL right now as an undrafted FA.

Wasn't he getting some quality playing time with the Lions also? I think he just recently got injured. I'm not for sure though.

Another thing about 40 times - some guys are a lot faster in pads than others. Frankly I'd like to see 40 times measured in pads. I think we'd see a lot different stats for some people.
