I would hate to be a mid major athletic director. You hire the right person, except that it's so right someone else hires him in the next few years.

Guess Drake had Daniyal Robinson as a finalist? Daniyal will get his chance soon enough hopefully at one better set up to succeed in the short term, for now he can continue building the Chicago pipeline for ISU.

"On Thursday morning, Iowa State assistant coach Daniyal Robinson, who was a finalist for the job, told the Register he was informed he had not been hired."

Kind of selfishly glad for that, as I don't want any disruptions with this class (or hopefully future prospects in that area now), but I suppose eventually he's going to land somewhere.

Just like every college coach that makes decent money everywhere, it's all privately funded and no tax dollars are paying Ben Jacobson, just like Campbell, Prohm, Ferentz and Lady Glasses.

Comparing UNIs academic mission to those of Iowa State and Iowa is like comparing apples and Oldsmobiles. Iowa State and Iowa are doctorate leveln national R1 institutions that pull in great numbers of out of state students as well as great numbers of grants and research dollars. UNI is a regional institution that hangs its hat on its teaching and accounting programs while having a student body that is 94% Iowan. UNI has no way to make up the dollars that would have been lost without raising tution on Iowans. If you believe that Iowa dollars should follow Iowa students, you should believe in UNI being as well funded as possible.

*steps down off soapbox*

How can you say Jacobsen’s is privately funded when UNIs athletic department is still subsidized by tax payers?

Pretty easily. There is a group of private donors that earmark donations specifically to pay Ben Jacobson and Mark Farley. That money would not be donated to UNI Athletics without it being earmarked for those salaries. UNI, like Iowa State and Iowa, is more or less a pass through to pay coaches. Without paying those coaches competitive salaries, UNI would not be able to compete at the level it does which would greatly impact fundraising and other revenues which would increase it's reliance on General Fund Dollars.

Any comparison of the financial models of Iowa State and Iowa versus UNI is basically comparing a 2018 Fully Loaded Infinity QX60 to a 1978 Pinto with a stick shift and no air conditioning.

I was surprised our man Randy P’s DM Rag article today about the new Drake coach didn’t ask him if he would probably be taking a better job next year

Drake only returns 3 players that have scored a point in college basketball.
