Posted this in another thread, but it is fitting here as well.
So......A couple of David Montgomery anecdote(s) from before the season (2018-2019)started.
Usually take the family to Fan Fest in August before the first game. This last year was no different. We typically can make it through all of the lines and meet all the athletes that are there (there is usually a good little story that comes out of these sessions and it usually involves my youngest (10) - who famously asked Q. Bundrage several years ago if he was going to catch the ball this year (this following a year of some high profile drops) - much to the delight of his teammates who realized he had just been burned by a 7 year old.
So onto this year. My 10 year old is in front of me and making his way through the lines when he comes to DM. My son is in Scouts (Dad is an Eagle Scout himself), and he knew that David was one as well. So he asks him what he did for his project. Being a spectator to this, and a dad, time literally stood still. DM didn't have to say anything other than a brief reply and on to the next person. For him to speak to my son for several minutes and have a real conversation with him beyond just a "Thanks", or "Good Luck", speaks to the kind of person that we all believed he was, and the person we had heard he was. It is definitely a cool thing to see when the behaviors displayed lives up to and exceeds the hype (which is pretty rare in today's day and age....especially in athletics). For that I am a DM fan for life.
Being next in line behind my son, I continued on with our conversation with him and asked him if he had finished Rich Dad, Poor Dad (read an article in the Reg. that he had been reading this book, which I would highly recommend). He replied that he had not yet finished the book. To which I replied that that was a good read and I recommended another book for his reading list, The Millionaire Next Door. He said that he had not read that book, and asked if it was pretty good, to which I replied that it was, adding that it would help him out and come in pretty handy where he was going. I don't recall who was sitting next to him, but he burst out laughing once he heard the punchline.
