AMES, Iowa -- Marshalltown High School Director of Bands Bret Lee had a problem. His Bobcat marching band needed additional practice time in preparation for another MHS band trip to the Blue Cross and Blue Shield National Band Championship at University of Phoenix Stadium Dec. 28 in Phoenix, Ariz. His students were also getting set to march in the Fiesta Bowl parade Dec. 29. Bitter cold combined with ice-covered fields in Central Iowa made an indoor practice imperative for a band that had not been able to practice their on-field routines in six weeks. An indoor practice on a full-length football field would be ideal.
