That probably includes the Big 12 and ACC schools.

This is where the G5 hooks up with the better FCS leagues, IMO.

This is probably ultimately for the best.

It's not like the FBS/FCS split was handed down by Moses --

There was no divisional structure at all until 1956.

"Division I" was only split between "A" and "AA" in 1978.

Having a P4 division, a G5/upper-level FCS, and lower-level FCS divisional structure is probably more reflective of the competitive realities of the sport at this point than simply two.

The P2 are going to make the barrier to entry so high that I'm not entirely sure the full B12 and ACC are going to be able to realistically make the cut. The key thing to me isn't so much the money based on current sports offerings, it's the getting to make rules on scholarship minimums and number of sports minimums. You can jack that cost up real, real quick without any true impact on the P2.

The G5 was already not playing the same game so I think they just go along on their merry way and create their own playoff and hope to pick off a few schools that choose not to invest in the new league and call up the Big Sky and MVFC to get to 100ish schools with a 16 team playoff.

Could Iowa State really afford paying half of our student athletes $30k per year?

If my math is correct that would add $8.33/ ticket to pay for $30,000/kid for 100 kids?

60,000 seats
6 home games
100 athletes
$30,000/ athlete

$30,000x100=$3,000,000
$3,000,000/360,000=$8.333333

Those numbers aren’t correct, we have more than 200 student athletes total.

Now read what it says about having to abide by Title IX, you pay 3 million to mens football and basketball? Well you have to pay that to women's athletes as well.

Fine. Then raise the prices on basketball games too, and kick in from TV contracts. Point being, it is attainable and not really that much more expensive.

And save money by cutting baseball! Oh... wait.

I mean, it's inevitable, right? There's just no good reason for the Vandy, Northwestern, Purdue, etc. of the world to be hanging in these big conferences. They'll be another round of consolidation that leads to the Top 15-20 schools all being lumped together and everyone else looking for a seat.

I wonder if the design of this would end up where the Big 12 and ACC agree to some limitations on compensation and coaching staff, and let the P2 do the no limitations as proposed in this deal.

The problem is that due to Title IX the amount going to each athlete won't amount to much to make a difference since it will be diluted across every sport. Until the NCAA or CFB specifically find a way around it (Conferences paying the players directly is the most likely), I don't see any of this helping.
