North Linn opens the tourney with a 75-59 win over Woodbine.
North Linn is on a pretty insane run right now. According to Varsity Bound they are 232-9 in the last nine seasons, eight straight trips to the state tourney, and a couple state championships mixed in there. And oh yeah, the girls team is 321-31 going back to 2010-11 season. Incredible programs to have that kind of sustained success

Also very good at baseball and softball (won state there last year) and pretty good in football.

Many if not most of the athletes have been 3rd or 4th generation in the area or at least were born there.

It's still a travesty that there are no championship games on Saturday night like there used to be. HUGE mistake and missed opportunity to showcase teams on a weekend night by the boys athletic association. Nobody wants to watch championship games on a Friday afternoon. Just doesn't have the same feel.

Not exactly sure.

Probably saves the Ihsaa money since a Saturday is more expensive than a Monday. Just move everything back a day, or restart the 3/4 place games.

If the alma mater wins another game, I may need to slide down there on Friday.

Boys athletic union or whatever the correct name is, is a joke the IGHSAA( ?) does it so much better.

The boy's tourney used to be spring break week but now it is the week before. A few years back, they surveyed the schools, and the schools said they wanted to be done on Friday because of spring break the following week.

When they did this, the consolation games were eliminated, and all four finals are now played on Friday.

They only had one 6'9" guy. Seems like they usually have 2 or 3 more that are 6'6". Pretty short roster by their standards this year competing in 2A.
Yeah, they have a stud at the 5 but he’s probably Italian. Not sure how they find these kids.

They did voluntarily move to 2a for boys BB.

I was somewhat amazed that, pretty much, the entire western half of the State didn't get a 3A or 4A team in the tournament this year.
And 1A only had 8 seed Woodbine, who held their own for the most part. Then 2A had four teams west of US-59.

Or the same ability to tune in.

In WI pretty sure the entire state tournaments are on a local station in various parts of the state, carried by Fox.

Raef LaFrentz's son, Cael, is on Decorah's team. He is a 6-10 soph and averages 16 ppg and 11 rpg. Raef is an assistant coach. I am not sure what his recruiting stock is at this point and if he is a high major prospect.
C´mon, Vikes!

LaFrentz's seaons stats were hilarious - like 380 pts, 200+ rebounds and EIGHT ASSISTS. No Bill Walton quite yet, anyway.

Hopefully, I don't have to dislike him b/c he becomes a Jayhawk like his dad.

I think that there are 2 more LaFrentz boys after this one.

Raef had a move in the barn that I'll never forget. On semi break from the FT line he did a spin then soared in for a left handed dunk.

Day 2 begins with Hudson beating Grundy Center, 55-51.

Grundy led by 6 early in the 4th, but Hudson came back to tie it with 3 minutes left and then went 6/6 at the FT line in the final minute to close it out.
