I thought there was another thread on this, but couldn't find it. Looks like the place will soon be up and running...

Those dreams of an all-Iowa beer hall are finally coming true. Full Court Press, the owners of beer havens such as El Bait Shop, Hessen House and The Royal Mile, plan to unveil Iowa Tap Room in late February or early March at 215 E. Third St. in the East Village.
When complete, expect to find 120 Iowa beers on tap. Full Court Press partner Jeff Bruning calls it an “all-Iowa version of El Bait Shop,â€￾ that ode to craft beers with 185 on tap south of Court Avenue. The 7,200-square-foot bar and restaurant in the former Dilley Manufacturing building will feature a patio and a deck in the alleyway. A 64 linear-foot bar wraps around a silo dispensing brews in a half hexagon shape covered with an 1880s countertop salvaged

That looks really cool, wish I could get back to Iowa more to check out all the new developments like this. Des Moines really seems to be progressing.

sounds awesome! Hopefully they will have plenty of the stuff its hard to find in central iowa, like Lion Bridge and Toppling Goliath. I would love to start seeing some of TG's tap room only drafts in central iowa

The only thing that is disappointing is that last month they were saying that it would be open at the end of December/Start of January. This is going to be so great and should lighten the load on El Bait Shop.

They could always do some kind of "guest beer" type of thing and incorporate other states in to that.

120 does seem like an overwhelming number to keep active. I wonder how many breweries there even are in Iowa to choose from that have the production capacity? As an aside, I think it will be interesting is to see what impact having their beer on tap here will make to some of the smaller breweries in the state. Will it be a big boast to their bottom line? Will they be able to keep up production (and quality) to meet demand?

I would imagine/hope they’d stay true to the “all Iowa” theme and not put out-of-state beers on tap here. Every “foreign beer” is one less chance someone tries an Iowa beer.

I would be VERY surprised to see any non-Iowa tap ever. They have plenty of bars where they can have non iowa taps and the theme of the place is Iowa beer. If I was them I wouldn't even carry things like Miller Lite in bottles. If you want to drink that crap go to the other 1,000 bars in town. Or charge like $20/bottle for it.

There are 67 breweries either already pumping out beer or are in the planning/building stages. Plenty of places that the Iowa Tap Room could draw product from. Hell, you could easily cover half the taps in breweries from just around the metro if you got their whole line of beers.

Did they change the number of taps? I was always told 99 (for the number of counties in Iowa). It really won't be that hard to put 99 Iowa beers on tap. The problem is there are not 99 good Iowa beers. Heck, there aren't 10 good Iowa beers for a normal rotation. It'll be interesting to see what they do. The Old Fashioned is pretty successful in Madison, so there's no reason why this won't work...well, there are a lot of reasons why it won't work, but I wont get into that.
