How do I find this information? It would be nice to see how the student enrollment has grown over the years. In particular (1979) - that was my first year there. Are there continuing infrastructure changes being done now - more classrooms, more housing, or is the internet is being used more as a way to mitigate crowding?

They bowled in the SEZ to provide more room for students (or at least fans). On a more serious note, I know enrollment was around 27,500 in 1983 when I started. I believe it stuck around 28-30,000 until mid 2000's when it started climbing.
edit: Rulzz has more accurate numbers and timeline. It was around 2010 that it started climbing.

I was there from 88-93. I believe the enrollment was around 24,000 at that time.18,000 undergrad and another 6 graduate students.

Edit: It may have been more like 3,500 to 4,000 graduate students. 22,000 - 23,000 total

2002 set a record at that time then after 4 years of declining numbers ISU ran off 10 years of increases in enrollment.

Have they stated what the ultimate goal is?
I know they had trouble housing all the students when the boom happened, but have they got all caught up on building new student housing?

I thought I read in Visions or the NewsFlash email that the university is pretty content at 36,000.

I would love to know the split between women and mrn. I know men outnumbered men while I was in school. Is that gap closing?

I don’t think Iowa State really wants to be in the expanding dorm business.

Current male to female ratio is 57:43.

They are. Former Vice President Hill once told me that 40,000 would be a structural limit, and ideally they don't want to come close to that.

They don't have any control over admission rate, so the only way to keep that number down is for enrollments and applications to decrease in rate. Unfortunately, I do think the state's budget combined with the enrollment increase has hurt the University's quality, and that decrease in quality is why enrollment will level off to a sustainable level.

Perhaps "quality" is a touch too strong a word, but definitely the superficial aspects of the university are a little poorer than when I started four years ago, perhaps other areas as well.
