I didn't have OSU marked down as a W, but Jay has me drinking the KoolAid beer bong style! I'm at 8-4 now!

Nice write up from an ISU perspective. One glaring assumption in his analysis seems to be that he Cowboys will have another “statue” at QB. Mason Rudolph was primarily a pocket passer, who would occasionally rip off a 12-15 yard run if the defense ignored the QB to stop the run. Taylor Cornelius, who is the odds on favorite to be starting against ISU, is taller than Rudolph, has a stronger arm than Rudolph (per recent statements my OC Mike Yurcich) and is by far a true threat to run.

Proof? Witness his 40+ yard TD run last year against Baylor. Or, his 64 yard TD run against the ones in last weekend’s first scrimmage inside BPS. He is 6’ 6” tall, a fifth-year Senior and 220 pounds. Outside of Stillwater, everyone is hoping he’ll be a major drop off from Rudolph. But, everyone was hoping that there would be a major drop off at QB in 2010 after three years Zac Robinson, and in came Brandon Weeden, who was the third-string QB in 2009, with only one half of experience in game action. OSU had an 11 win season in 2010.

Another wild card that wasn’t really mentioned in the RB discussion is that the Cowboy’s will now have the services of tailback Chuba Hubbard, who is track star fast and was rated the #1 player in Canada before signing with the Pokes. He had a good Spring and is seen as an intriguing addition in reports coming out of Fall camp. Before poo-pooing him, remember you guys offered and were salivating at the though of getting him.

You also won’t see much drop off at WR. Both inside contributors last year (McClesky and Stoner) are back and healthy. If you look at the six offensive TD’s scored last year in the first half against Pitt, 6 of those TDs were scored by returning players. On the outside, we will have five-star LSU transfer Tyron Johnson and four-star sophomore Tylan Wallace as probable starters. They will be joined by four-star RS-FR LC Greenwood and possibly four-star true Freshman, C.J. Moore (who is the cousin of longtime Cowboy receiver, Tracy Moore. Two intriguing receiving options we will have this year, who weren’t available last year are, 6’ 6” former JUCO QB, Patrick McKaufman, who is said to be very comparable in style to the recently graduated Marcel Ateman (only faster and more athletic), and 6’7” TE Jelani Woods, who last year red-shirted as a QB. Think of the possibilities of two former QBs and trick plays!

Don’t expect our offense to fall off too much. Even curmudgeonly former Cowboy HC Pat Jones, who has angered Poke fans for years for his very cautious and negative reports out of fall camp, this year is saying OSU has one of the best stable of running backs in the country and that our offense might be better than last year’s.

See you in Stillwater.

I don’t want to fisappoint you, but...we’ve got some track stars, too.

By the way—I’m reasonably sure that Tulsa is outside of Stillwater. So, why are you hoping for a big drop off at quarterback?

Didn’t imply you didn’t have your share of speed. Chuba is just one new variable to our loaded RB corps that wasn’t there last year. Our top four rushers all return, who collectively combined for 2,234 yards on the ground. Chuba is a speedy new wrinkle to add to the mix. Here’s what was reported on Hubbard:

He ran a 10.55 100-meter dash to place fourth in the World Youth Championships and is a three-time national champion for his age group.”

There aren’t many RBs that can stake that claim.

C'mon guys give @SouthTulsaPoke some slack. This time of yr every teams fans are getting excited for the season. He didn't come in here and trash our team, he came in and gave his opinion about his team. Actually thanks STP for coming in and giving your opinion in a reasonable friendly manner.
