Des Moines was booming in the mid to late 2000's. It seems like Omaha has really been kicking their ass the last 10-15 years though.
Outside of Court Ave getting ****** and Omaha renovating the north end of downtown, I don’t see this. Very similar cities, IMO. Both pretty great.

Agree on the similar cities. Old Market is super cool - too bad Court isn't what it was 10 years ago, but still some fun places downtown.

What Omaha has that DSM doesn't that bumps them up is the CWS. That's a nice little economic boost they can count on every year.

The decline of court has corresponded with the east village getting better though. Which is fine with me. As I get older if I'm gonna go out downtown I like those bars better anyway

What are the requirements for okayest?

Like city amenities such as parks, but not nice ones?

Downtown has businesses, but it's mostly hair salons and dive bars?

There must be an industrial area, but only a couple lots are built?

Major housing development is probably 20 year old stuff?

I am in favor of your proposed criteria.

Community pool, but no slides?

Designated parking lot for safe Facebook Marketplace transactions?

At least one good Mexican restaurant (adder if it used to be a Pizza Hut)?
