I believe if 4 or 5 mega conferences formed each would create their own TV network and eventually have no games on the networks thereby keeping all the profit for themselves.

The NCAA takes in over 600 million from TV revenue, the mega conferneces would decide since they drive that revenue stream they should have it and form a separate amateur league with their own rules and their own tournaments. Those rules would be similiar to the rules for amateur athletes in the olympics, allowing for cars and whatever they "need".

There is a lot of money in this business and the networks and the NCAA want to maintain the status quo as long as possible.
