I am guessing it will be Brian Kelly

Reasons are stated below:

He is the new Urban Meyer, a offensive wiz who turned a mediocre program around into a power house.

4 years at Cincinnati her has done the following:
Compiled a 33-6 record/ 3 Bowl games one BCS bowl going to a 4th in 4 years there. One BCS bowl. This year he is 11-0. Every School that he has gone to he has brought the school around and to a bowl game. When he was with the MAC he took Central Michigan from a 4-7 to a 9-4 and 1st overall and to the Motor City Bowl where he did not coach them.
What else is there for him to do in Cincinnati? He is confident and he likes the spotlight. There is no reason that i can even think of why he would not take this position.

If there is a more suitable coach I would love to hear who you believe the new coach would be

ND fans really aren't to hot on Brian Kelly right now. It is ridiculous, but it is the case. I still think they get Urban if they can wait until the NC is decided or Florida loses.

I think they stay away from him in part due to Cincy's lower academic standards. Brian Kelly is on their list, but aways down it.

This is why I think Paul Johnson would be the best candidate. He had to deal with the high academic standards and recruiting roadblocks at Navy. And he was successful there. He's still being successful at GT. Having said that, he still has no shot.

Jon Gruden would be a mistake because he doesn't seem to like players that are under the age of 35. Also he would waste at least 7 to 10 schollies a year on QB's alone. Because you know how he loved to collect QB's.

I don't think there's any way with Brian Kelly. He's made a living off risky guys and just hopes they find a way onto campus. That won't work at Notre Dame.

I'll be a little surprised if it is Brian Kelly for the sole fact that everyone is guessing Brian Kelly. It is the easy choice...nice smokescreen.

I think Brian is too flash in the pan right now.

After going through 3 coaches in 15 years, my bet is they've thought it through and will go after an established College or NFL coach.

Funny, a lot of the names I'm hearing are names people threw around on this site a year ago when we were looking.

If they knew what was good for them they would find a coach who has a good track record with defense. Either as a coordinator or as an existing head coach who put an emphasis on defense.

Charlie Strong out of Florida maybe?

Stoops or Meyer. No way Notre Dame risks whiffing on this hire. Fans want and expect that they should be able to hire away either of these coaches. Anything less will not be accepted.

Yeah, but why blow a bunch of money on a long term contract with these guys? There are a lot of other good coaches out there to be had.

How about the "Ol' 'Ball Coach"? It would be easier for Spurrier to recruit kids to ND than at SC. His team has looked great at times this year and I think it would be hilarious to watch him rub it in Meyer's face.

Tons of great coaches out there....but it's about perception now.

I've never been a big buyer into that line of thought. You make the right hire and all those perceived problems will take care of themselves. Notre Dame has high expectations, but is a much easier place to coach than places like ISU.

You have to think with your pocket book and Notre Dame has a lot of money, but that doesn't mean you go to the casino and blow it on a 2 to 1 bet.

Town of Iowa fans, YUCK!
I do not see it being Kelly. I would go for a coach that knows how to build a defense with good players and then just add an offense. The reason Notre Dame hasn't been great is because they have had no defense. They were not very good at recruiting defensive players either.
