I was hoping they would hire the young guy that was a finalist for the job. CW had him on KXNO a week or two a go.
I believe this is him announcing in the video. Starting lineups starting at the 7:20 mark.
At least he knows his hok degree is something he has to overcome.
We're changing croots minds who grew up Hawk fans, and I guess PA announcers too.
I've known him on a professional level for years...long before he started announcing. I think he'll do well.

My thoughts too, he said he’s got a different style than our previous guys, but I really hope he keeps this around.
Sounds to me he has the right voice for it and will do great. Little surprised he will do both football and basketball. Isn’t that kinda rare? Maybe not.

Gary did both football and men's basketball for many years before switching to just hoops in ~2001.
Did not realize this. I was old enough to remember going to game around 2002 or 2003.
If you watch any games on YouTube from the early 90s/late 80s, it sounds like cyclone stadium had the most god awful PA system invented. I’ve heard cheap bull horns that sounded better. Was it that bad in person or did the tv broadcast just make it sound worse than it was?
He is great. He has been Urbandale’s primary announcer for a long time and puts the others to shame. I hope he continues some of the Urbandale stuff too but it sounds like he won’t. It will be a great loss for Urbandale.
It was a little rough. But that was before PA announcers became hype men, and before the days of canned music. All you needed was something relatively simple that could amplify a normal-volume speaking voice and not do much else.
