With the ‘21 Draft this week, seemed like a good time for the fresh thread. I just see the ‘20 one.

Summary?

A. They patched a bunch of holes, most short termin free agency.

B. That still leaves three gaping holes, two on the OL, one at DE.

C. There are other spots that could stand either upgrading or long term fixes.

D. Vikings fans are sick and tired of the long term shortcomings on the OL.

And I agree.

That said, after some consideration, I don’t care who they draft in the first round. If they find an ultra stud DE, fine. If one of the top receivers falls to them, fine. If Trey Lance falls to them, fine.

With the qualifier of “as long as they make a good effort to fix the dang OL at the same time”. Preferably, two OL in the top three rounds.

Sewell is highly unlikely to fall them, but I’d be happy with Vera-Tucker, and sticking him at guard for the next ten years.

That said, what I said above still applies. There are guys later that could become quality starters. I’d be curious as to the team’s evaluation of the Stanford tackle’s health. Walker Little (iirc).

Just fix the dang OL. And please, don’t take that undersized DE from Georgia. You should have learned your lesson about one dimensional pass rushers by now, Rick Spielman.

I'm hoping Slater slides to 14 (not likely) and then take a guard in round 2 (fully expect Trader Rick to deal some 4th and 5th rounders to get back in). Then go DE, S, and QB.

Trade back in the first round, maybe for both Ravens picks, draft batemen and then trade into the 2nd round and pick up a couple of OL. Little, Brown, Leatherwood, Christiansen, guys like that.

Oh, Nwangwu late for RB3 and return specialist.

I’m certainly not a huge Cousins fan, but I’ll probably always wonder what he could’ve done with even an average O line.

Best case scenario is Slater or Sewell falls. Second best case is a QB falls and teams will overpay to get in front of New England.

Anything but a corner...
I’m afraid they’ll use Gladney’s legal problems to justify taking a CB in the first. The good news is Zim/Spielman have about a 25% hit rate on first round dbacks.

Peterson is only a rental. If they picked Farley or Surtain, I’d have a hard time complaining—especially when they’d need to pick one in ‘22 anyway.

I’m not sure how he’ll manage it, but I’m fairly sure Spielman will wind up with a second rounder. One way or another. Those extra thirds and fourths are ammunition.

Unless, of course, he trades up for the right player.

Gotta qualify these things.

You could almost say that about any vikings QB for about the last 30 years.

Spielman only understands trading back - over & over... actually, if the top couple OL or a top QB (can't pass that) aren't there, I'd be fine with him trading back in rd 1 to pick up that 2nd rounder. Then, would like him to actually trade up in rds 2-4 to get the guys they really want. No more loading up on 7th-rounders to go for quantity.

Hopefully the Vikes end up with one of the top three OL after Sewell. Trade up a couple of spots for Slater (which Trader Rick won't do) or trade down a couple of spots for Vera Tucker or Darrisaw.
Agree with not loading up all the late round picks. Save one for the best kicker available in Rd. 7.

With Cousins under contract through ‘22 (iirc), I see zero reason to pick any QB not named Lance this year.

Pick a guy next year, or wait for a ‘23 stud.
Not unreasonable to think they’ll have a fairly high first-round pick one or both of those years.

I think Rick will be tempted to take a QB in the fourth. I wouldn't mind the Vikes taking the guys at at Arkansas or Memphis.

Well, the team needs big help at two OL spots and DE.

Secondary needs would be a solid third WR, depth (and a future) at safety, and potential ‘22 replacements at CB and LB for Peterson and Barr. Some would say another TE as well.

That’s seven or eight spots right there. Just my opinion, but I think the picks in the first four rounds are covered right there.

Pelissero threw it out there that the Vikes may try and trade up...tough to believe that.
