Keep in mind that if the rain falls too fast over a short period of time, the water will run off into lakes. rivers. creeks. That doesn't help much with improving drought conditions. The best rains to improve drought conditions are the light to moderate, all day rain events. Those rains will soak into the ground much better than downpours
Somewhat dependent on terrain and county, among other things, but often the ponding is really pointing out who isn’t into conservation.

For the people in northern Iowa and states along the Canada border, Aurora borealis may be able to be seen Saturday night:

And so it begins, again. Driving home tonight and saw the Mpls skyline was obscured by smoke from wildfires.

Checked the interweb and, yup, air quality alert.

I know it's coming but it gives me such dread for the summer and beyond.

My sister mentioned this in the family chat last night and I was all "WTF isn't Canada still covered in snow?"

As of yesterday morning, there was no rain in the 10 day forecast. Then it rained most of the night and there is now rain predicted on and off all day today. WTF.

My rain gauge is up to right at 3" as of 6:10 am
Wow, that is amazing, considering in Ames we got a short one-tenth overnight. None yesterday with highs in the lower 80s.

Completely untrained observer take: it seems like when areas experience weather patterns that create a lot of rain, that moisture feeds into the fronts that pass through and create more rain.
