As far as the department getting teams to places - I have no idea.

I wish our competition were closer so students could attend more games.

I've said it in other threads. South Florida seems to have figured out how to fly it's sport teams to the northeast for every contest. I'm sure it can be done.

I wish the BoR would step up to the plate for ISU for once in their existence. It seems like anything which potentially costs the taxpayers more money (reduced budget, higher traveling expense = more money required from the taxpayers) should become priority number one. But that would involve treating ISU and Iowa like equals which we know is never going to happen.

To be div. 1 you need

A) 7 men's and 7 women's sports in NCAA

or

B) 6 men's and 8 women's sports in NCAA

we have:

Men:
Track
FB
BB
Golf
WR
XC = 6

Women:
Swimming
Gymnastics
Soccer
Tennis
Track
XC
BB
VB
Softball
Golf = 10

If I am not missing any, we could drop a women's sport (although Title IX might say otherwise). Men's sports could not be dropped.

The indoor and outdoor track teams are considered two separate sports IIRC. So it looks like there is 7 mens and 11 womens teams.
