reading an article on msn it said he and the queen were 3rd cousins...ummm

Oh, according to the sources on Wikipedia, it's much worse than that...

In 1939, King George VI and Queen Elizabeth toured the Royal Naval College, Dartmouth. During the visit, the Queen and Louis Mountbatten asked his nephew Philip to escort the King's two daughters, Elizabeth and Margaret, who were Philip's third cousins through Queen Victoria, and second cousins once removed through King Christian IX of Denmark.[32] Elizabeth fell in love with Philip, and they began to exchange letters when she was 13.[33]

Think Harry and/or Meghan will attend the services? Asking for a friend...
They're both in an unwinnable situation here. If they don't go the British press will be unrelenting, If Harry goes solo the British press will be unrelenting and so on and so forth.

I was thinking 100% they both go but I forgot she's quite pregnant right now so it may not be advisable for her to go.

I don't keep up with that sort of stuff so I had no idea she was pregnant again. That at least let's Harry go solo with a valid reason for her to stay home. Not that that will stop the British press.

There's little in the western world more strange than the British Royal system and the media and public's interest. I'm proud to say I clicked in this to find out who this guy even was.

My knowledge of the royal family is:
- Queen what's her name
- The dude that looks like Carson Wenz that's married to the actress
- The bald dude married to the British chick
- The pedophile

Am I missing anyone?

When they announced, she looked more pregnant than I did so I think she's at least a month ahead of me, putting her mid-late May in my guesstimation. Depending how long before the funeral, that puts her pretty close to the point that Drs typically want you to stop flying, especially for a long international flight.

The Prince got very sick a few years ago right before we were supposed to go over for a sight seeing vacation. I was really glad he got better because I was afraid half the places we wanted to see in London would have been in mourning/shut down. For sure we wouldn't have been able to do Windsor. Cool story, I know.

Meh, who the **** cares. The system of royalty is stupid AF.

Having a symbolic monarch to embody the "mysticism" of the "national spirit" (or to provide fodder for the tabloids) helps deflect that kind of romanticism away from elected officials, who are then seen more as what they are -- civil servants, magistrates in charge of administration and policy, not a personification of the nation.

The small 'r' republican in me definitely does not like such a vestigial institution as the monarchy, but it is hard to argue it does not have practical benefits for the nations that have constitutional monarchies. A lot of our problems come from our desire to invest our definitions of morality or patriotic sentimentality into legislation and administration because we have nowhere else for it to go, and trying to make the necessarily messy business of politics into Camelot...

Well, it never goes well, and it is usually fake. All-American war hero good Catholic boy JFK was supposed to be the manly avatar of a new generation, but he was really a drug addict who cheated on Jackie almost daily.

Godspeed, Prince Philip. Most of all for your service in the great and terrible WWII.
