This is like a never-ending nightmare. As long as there is more money to be made, some DB SEC/BIG leader will want to keep destroying things.
Its laughable to think ISU makes a 48 school cut. Would like to see the logic there, but who knows.
When you add up the Power 4 + ND right now its 64 teams. that doesn't even include Cal, Stanford, Oregon St, Wash St,
So IMO, ISU would be in a battle to make a 64 team league because a lot of these schools like Rutgers, vandy, NW, Indiana, etc will be protected. you can argue there could be a new league formed, but I don't think the Lords of College football will be able to part ways with the SEC and BIG names.
I don't think they will end up going to 48 teams though as there are way to many teams that would be left out. Two 32 team divisions is my guess which would be just like the NFL. That is where I am concerned, especially since there has been so many schools promoted now that could jump ISU if it came down to it. For example, Does BYU or UCF get the nod over a team like ISU? who knows.
My opinion is they could just keep the BIG and SEC (AFC and NFC)
Keep all the teams from the BIG/SEC (34 teams) then find another 30 teams to total 64.
Between ND, ACC/Big12/Old Pac 4, they would basically have to cut 5 teams
My guess (give or take) is those 5 would come from this pool.
BC
Duke
L'ville
NC State
Pitt
Syracuse
WF
BYU
Baylor
TCU
KSU
ISU
Cincy
UCF
Cal
Stanford
WSU
Oregon St
and yes, any of these teams are just as good or better than all the grandfathered in bottom feeder schools in the BIG/SEC.
once this gets done, then we can have some closure and continue to watch College football burn to the ground with some other greed idea.
I will say I am not sure how this woud work as there isn't enough money IMO. I think top schools are going to want more.
IF ISU gets left out and I really hope that doesn't happen, then we will have to transition to a Boise St type football vibe if even possible. and go ALL IN on basketball.
wake me up when this is over.
