From Cyclones.com.

The team's actually out scoring the opposition! Looks like the 2nd quarter is the team's best.

Gained 200+ yards passing than the opposition, rushing the ball is about even between the good guys and the opposing team. Out gaining the bad guys overall as well. Better than I expected for being a 2-2 team.

We are geared towards dink and dunk. We can't do long throws; yet our red zone production is horrible. Penalties, turn-overs, missed field goals, drops, and over throws.

defensive stats look so much better....like in the range it can keep us within a puncher's chance in some games.

Looks like going for fourth down has not been to our liking.

Stats for both are quite similar. Looks like a 2-2 team.

Good thing we looked at them now. Three weeks from now it's going to look, uh, different.

We are currently tied for 39th in the country for passing yards per game, 66th in yards per pass attempt, 35th in completion percentage and 58th in team passing efficiency out of 127 FBS teams so far this season. I'm not saying our passing game is great, but it's right in the neighborhood of average and maybe just slightly better than average. You can't argue SOS either as all the other P5 teams have played a few cupcakes too, and Iowa and Toledo are looking better than people thought at the beginning of the season.

Yep, the redzone scoring is horrible. Other offensive problems in general have been penalties and sacks.

I do think we have a capable defense. Unfortunately, just like pretty much every other year under Rhoads, the offense is going to disappear in Big 12 play and leave our defense vulnerable to way more possessions and bad spots than they should be in.

Our next 3 opponents are statistically three of the best offenses in college football history. Imposing challenge indeed.

Those red zone stats stand-out. If we're inside the 20, we should come away with points 90-95% of the time. Thats a 37 yard FG minimum.

Obviously the red zone performance has to improve.

I'd also like to see the defense start coming down with some more takeaways. Some timely interceptions and forced fumbles would go a long ways in helping us stay competitive the next three weeks.

I would assume the third down conversion of 43% is the highest it's been in about 100 years.

Redzone production will be the key to the season with this year's offense now that we get into ACTUAL Big 12 quality opponents. Our FG kicking stinks (nothing new historically there) so we must find ways to get in the endzone. I'd love to see a 4 down mentality implemented, but I think the risky/gambling Paul Rhoads is gone. I have Iowa friends who are still talking to me about how they can't believe he punted 4th and 1 against them.

If we have two 4th and shorts in the redzone I think I'd take the risk of not converting either against scoring one or even both TDs. Rather than 2 FG attempts where one probably gets shanked.

The past two seasons, a Red Zone Scoring Efficiency of 90%+ would put you in about the top 15 of all FBS teams, and it didn't ensure a winning record for 4 of those teams. In 2013, ISU's Red Zone Scoring Efficiency was 89.7% and we still went 3-9. The average is around 83%; if we can get there, I think we'll be okay.

The past two years we've averaged 3.6 and 3.3 trips to the Red Zone per game, and our efficiency has been 90% and 81%. This year so far we've averaged 4.5 trips to the Red Zone per game. If we can continue to get into the Red Zone that often but increase our scoring efficiency, that will put us in the neighborhood of 30 points per game which may be enough for us to win some more games yet this year.

2nd quarter dominance! Probably should be 3-1 (whether beating Iowa or Toledo). But this team will come prepared in Dump Town, Texas Saturday.
