With only one more year left before the current GOR ends, the payout may be more manageable now that there is only one year left to pay.

is it possible for the big 12 to keep them in conference, but not schedule them in any sport? Like yeah you are still a big 12 member, but we don't want you actually playing games.

Maybe this portends some news from the Big 12 (going back to Yormark's expansion tease recently)?

I truly believe they are desperately trying to avoid losses to the incoming expansion teams.
They will never say it but this is 100% a big part of their push to get out early. Think about it, they are literally going to pay millions and millions of dollars in order to not play some of those games.

Or not schedule any home games for them. A 9 game road trip for football? If I'm the commissioner, what do I have to lose by being petty, they're already leaving.
