Just the shrine just west of Ames is gone! Someone posted it being gone on a Boone County FB page. I haven’t been out by it in along time. May have to drive by it to see it for my self. Wonder if the deceased owner will roam around haunting it forever?

I went by it this fall and it was still up. Did the dude die?

The owner died in April from injuries in an intentionally started bonfire in March 2023 according to a state fire marshal report

Both the owner’s home and the shrine are being removed
Well, that's unsettling AF. only adds to the mystique

We used to drive by it late at night as teenagers. The stories about it got pretty wild.

What shrine? I grew up in Ogden and put on a million miles it seems like going back and forth to Boone but don’t recall any shrine. Granted I moved out in like 2000.

This sounds intriguing. Is there some kind of link to fill me in? I have no clue WTF it's about.

That’s really too bad. It was an amazing piece of “outsider” art. Could have easily been preserved and made into a destination. County has no imagination when it comes to preserving culture and landmarks.

I doubt the County had anything to do with it being removed. Most likely the heirs wanted to maximize the sale.
