I'll be in Pittsburgh, PA & SW Pennsylvania in a bit under a month for a long weekend (2.5 days).

Fellow fanatics recommend anything I should make a point to see or do while I'm there? (Willing to travel in a 2-3 hour radius)

I like historical stuff, geographic points of interest, parks, landmarks, etc. Not into concerts, shows, or breweries.

Thanks.

Warhol museum. If you need a strong beverage try a Batman bomb. Preferably from the Jack Rose bar.

Second Warhol museum. Pirates game. If you're into cycling, do part of the Great Allegheny Passage. Do one of the funiculars (trams that go up the hill side). Johnstown is 1.5 hrs east, site of one of the worst disasters in US history, a flood that killed 2200 people, lots of history there (although they had some flooding from Ida a few days ago).

Ohiopyle is close to Fallingwater, small town but a recreation haven and state park with whitewater rafting, the GAP trail, and hiking.

Google Kinzua Bridge. It's north of Pitt a couple hours.

It’s quick but we really enjoyed the Duquense Incline. It’s a historical incline train that takes you to an observation deck overlooking downtown.

We also rented kayaks during a Pirates game.

My wife goes there yearly for work so I tagged along a couple of years ago and spent a few days exploring the area.

Not into breweries? Dang, there is half my list. For others that ever go Brew Gentlemen, Grist House, and Southern Tier (especially now during pumpking season).

Warhol Mueseum is good
Heinz History Center
Bicycle Heaven-I'm not really into bicycles but it was a fun quick museum
Primanti Brothers-Not the greatest thing in the world but I feel like you have to do it while you're there

Agree with falling water, the Warhol museum is ******* weird but in a cool way. Frick park is a under the radar gem. The cathedral of learning at the university is pretty cool, I’m not sure if they’re giving tours or not because of covid. And one last suggestion, skip primanti bros and go to burgatory.

About 40 minutes west of Pittsburgh is the Weirton, WV/Steubenville, OH area. This area along the Ohio River is fascinating, but in a depressing way. The huge abandoned factories and decaying towns are a glimpse into a part of the country that most people never experience. The riverfront in Pittsburgh used to be like this even into the early 90's and they have done a great job of cleaning it up. It's not for everyone, but it is like nowhere else I've ever seen. Fun fact, Steubenville is Dean Martin's hometown.

Might go to the Pitt game @ Heinz field on Saturday (don't care about Pitt, but would be fun to see Heinz field). Tickets are cheap but parking is outrageous unless you walk 20+ minutes. Any tips on parking on a game day?

(I will be there the same day as our game at UNLV, the 18th - plenty of time to get to the motel and watch our game at night!)

I might go to Wheeling, WV to see their historic National Road bridge. Looks like the same kind of industrial depression there.

And yes, I would like seeing that kind of thing.

Hang out at Point Park for a morning or an afternoon. Cool to see the confluence of the rivers and people watch with a podcast or a book. The Rivers Casino is also accessible from the subway system which is free to ride if you enter and exit in the downtown area.

My last post mentions this but the subway system has a stop directly at Heinz Field and is free to ride if you enter/exit within downtown. Or you can park and ride from further out.
