If he really wanted to stick it to them, he would have accepted and sucked it up to take their $$$. Could not happen to a worse orginization.

Good for Torre!!! He dosn't need the money and won't let the BOSS jerk him around any more. Glad someone finally said to Steanbrenner "no thanks, and STUFF IT"
GO SOX and anyone but Yanks.

Good for him. He won't be out of work for long either probably and the next place he goes will probably appreciate him more than NY did these past few years.

NY appreciated him, the players appreciated him, it was Steinbrenner who can't pull his head out from betwixt his cheeks to appreciate him. I was born a Yankees fan, and I'll die a Yankees fan, but the Boss needs to ride off into the sunset.

Awesome! Go Torre! I happy he's the one telling the Yanks to shove it instead of the other way around. He is a great manager and doesn't deserve the crap he's had to put up with. I hope my Orioles sign him.

Some of the free agent players are going to tell George to shove it too without Torre there.

I am so glad that Torre did that. That is so disrespectful for him to only get offered a one year deal. I hope he told them to shove it up their ***.

I would like to see Torre in a KC Royals uniform next year

Here's a darkhorse for where either LaRussa or Torre could end up: Seattle. They have a nice group of players there right now that made a push for the playoffs. Even heard that if Jocketty winds up as the GM there it would be more enticing for LaRussa as well.

Ha! Go Torre. I hate the Yankees. At least he made them deliberate for a couple days wasting money and time on the issue before he said kiss my @$$.

Joe Torre turned down a 1-year $5mill offer.

20 minutes ago everyone was saying that a re-signing deal was going to happen. As a Yanks fan I didn't think it was going to be Torre who decided his fate.

ESPN - Torre turns down offer to return as Yanks' skipper - MLB

None of the major sites (ESPN, New York Yankees.com, MLB.com) have actually stories out yet....

Why in the world are you a Yankee$ fan?:err:

Good for Torre. I can't stand the overpaid whiners in that organization. Long live the curse of A-Rod!

Torre knows that he got that crappy offer because he vetoed his boss' desire to wear cotton uniforms. it was all downhill from that day on.

I am glad Torre rejected the offer also, this is just terrible the way Steinbrenner has treated him. You didn't see Atlanta make Bobby Cox sweat it out every year when they kept winning division titles. Torre deserves more respect, I like what someone said on ESPN, seems the yanks offered him this deal to try and save face.

The only good thing about Steinbrenner is the hilarious way Seinfeld used to portary him on the show!
