Exactly. There are 4 Valley jobs open right now. If he is this no doubt sure thing, you'd think it wouldn't be an issue for him to have his pick of those jobs.

Just because a P6 team is going to give you a job, esp. as a former player, doesn’t mean an MVC or other mid-major team would hire him.

When ISU hired Fred he probably couldn’t have gotten a head job in the MVC.

And if Gatens knows he’s getting it within a few years, why risk failing at a mid-major and not getting the job or at least losing the honeymoon period with the fan base.

And if Iowa is going to commit to Gatens, they aren’t going to let him go elsewhere and potentially drive up his price or get other suitors.

DD leaving Drake is exactly why Iowa State doesn’t sign a multi year agreement to play Drake or UNI. That could easily be a 250 plus type win next year.
