Under Decking

My in-laws are going to build a new deck. They are debating using an under decking system. Anyone had any experience with it? Is it worth it? Also of note they live in Chicago, not sure how well they will stand up to winters.

I haven't found any costs for the systems specifically designed for this, but I am guessing they are fairly expensive.

Couple of the systems I have found are Dek and UnderDeck. Also noticed a couple YouTube posts of people just putting up barn roofing under the deck, and leading the water to a gutter, which I presume is the cheapest option, however it is done under the joists.

I figure we have experts for everything else on CF why not under decking. Thanks for any help.
