Iowa man stole hot dog cart vendor's identity and used it for 30 years

Matthew David Keirans, 58, stole the identity of William Woods, 55, in 1988 when the pair worked together on a hotdog stand in Albuquerque, he used his identity for 30 years.

Yep. A runaway drifter guy did something in Albuquerque (or prior to that) that made obliterating his old identity necessary.

Now we wait to find out what that was.

I always find stories like this fascinating where the spouse never met ANY family members. I mean, not a single cousin, aunt, etc?

So Woods got his identity stolen in 1988 and didn't discover it until 31 years later? And the only way he figured it out was because Kierans took his money in 1990?

At the time of the fraud discovery, the real Woods was homeless, but Kierans had actually put together a "more successful" life with Woods' name.

Am I putting that together correctly? I'm curious what Woods was doing for 30 years where he has to end up homeless before discovering that someone had taken the money out of his bank account 30 years prior.

I guess University of Iowa will literally hire anyone.
