Not exactly going out on a limb here but she's likely to get a lot of them this year. Nabbed six last year.

And, if we are going to have an ongoing thread than lets keep score!

Scoreboard 2020

Player of Week

Joens 1 Dec 7
Collier 1 Nov 30

Freshman of the week
Ioanna Chatzileonti (Kansas) 2 Nov 30, Dec 7

Never heard of Chatzileonti, maybe because she is from Greece, as I found looking her up. 6-2 and averaging a double-double, right at 10 and 10. Going to be fun listening to the PBY peeps roll with a pronunciation. @brentblum I'd probably just go with her first name. ;)

BTW, we didn't have any Freshman of the Week awards last year but Espenmiller-McGraw was all freshman team. Also, weeklies are voted by a media panel and All-Big 12 stuff is coaches voting.

MEM *did* claim one Freshman of the Week award last year. For some reason, it's not in her bio. I found it in the archived articles on Cyclones.com. I was sure she had, so I had to go find it to make sure I wasn't hallucinating (again).

Ashely claims her second consecutive PoW award, while Donarski snags her first weekly nod.

They are starting early this season with the co-player of the week thing since they know that it is going to be rare that a player outplays Ashley.

Oklahoma State’s Natasha Mack collected Big 12 Women’s Basketball Player of the Week for Week 5, while Iowa State’s Emily Ryan earned Freshman of the Week.
Oklahoma State’s Natasha Mack collected Big 12 Women’s Basketball Player of the Week for Week 5, while Iowa State’s Emily Ryan earned Freshman of the Week.
Mack recorded her third double-double of the season by finishing with a career-high 31 points and grabbing 14 rebounds in a season-high 38 minutes played at North Texas. She connected on a career-high 15 field goals and shot 63 percent (15-of-24) from the floor. Mack has shot 63 percent or better in four games this season. The senior connected on six of her eight attempts from the floor in the final period en route to a 13-point quarter to help OSU secure its second road win of the year.
Ryan registered her first double-double, her first 20-point game and her first game with 10+ assists, netting 20 points and 10 dimes versus Drake. The starting point guard shot 77.8 percent (7-of-9) from the field and made 4-of-6 (66.7%) from beyond the arc, as ISU rolled past Drake, 85-67. Her 10 assists marked the first time a Cyclone has dished over 10 in a game since 2019.
The weekly award is the first for Mack this season and the second in her career, while Ryan is a first-time honoree.

At the rate games are being postponed we may not have awards next week  Only one game for us again this week so not looking for us on the list next week unless someone is crazy good at Tech.

Here's the weeklies for this week and the Big 12 summary (we already knew Gaston had a good game).

Oklahoma guard Madi Williams garnered Big 12 Women’s Basketball Player of the Week, while Texas forward DeYona Gaston collected Freshman of the Week. A five-person media panel selects the award winners.
Williams set the OU single-game scoring record, as she dropped 45 points against West Virginia. Williams passed OU's all-time leading scorer and current assistant coach Courtney Paris’ previous record of 43. Williams shot 17-for-30 (.567) from the floor, 3-for-7 (.429) from deep and 8-for-9 (.889) from the charity stripe. Additionally, Williams' 45 points against WVU were good for the most by a Division I women's basketball player this season and tied for fifth all-time in the Big 12. She also recorded four rebounds, two assists and a steal against the Mountaineers.
Gaston helped Texas to a perfect 2-0 week by averaging 15.5 points and 9.0 rebounds (in 25 mpg), while adding a combined five blocks and three steals in wins over Lamar (77-49) and Iowa State (74-59). She started off the week by registering her first collegiate double-double with a career-high 18 points and 10 rebounds, as well as a career-high eight made field goals, in the victory over Lamar. Against Iowa State, Gaston scored 13 points (10 in the first half), grabbed eight boards and blocked three Cyclone shots to raise her team-leading stuff total to 17.

Side note on the POW: I looked at the box score for the OU/WVU game. Williams had 45, next highest scorer had 13, third highest scorer(s) had 3 each. WVU won 90-72.

Made me look up the ISU single game records, complete with Connie Yori throwback.

Stuck on 42 for almost four decades.

Points
42, Tonya Burns vs. Nebraska (1-18-84)

Opponent Points
42, Connie Yori, Creighton (12-12-82)
42, Sharon Upshaw, Drake (12-1-76)

Lindsey Wilson and Ashley Joens have both come within a point of tying the single game scoring record and within a basket of breaking it. So close! But that's definitely a long time for a record like that to stand.

Upshaw really flourished in that 6 on 6 game.

From Big 12:

B12_POW_COMBO_1_.png

A pair of career-best performances were honored in Week 7 of Big 12 Women’s Basketball. Oklahoma State’s Natasha Mack was tabbed the Big 12 Player of the Week, while Iowa State’s Lexi Donarski earned Freshman of the Week. A five-person media panel selects the award winners.

Mack logged just the second triple-double in program history and the 10th with points, rebounds and blocks in the Big 12 during OSU's midweek win at TCU. She finished with 28 points, a season-high 17 rebounds and a career-high 10 blocks. Mack dished out three assists and had a career-best six steals in the contest. In Saturday’s win over TCU, she scored 17 points in the third quarter (7-7 FG) and finished the contest with 19 points, 10 rebounds, four blocked shots and two steals.

Donarski tied her career high with 25 points off 9-of-12 (75%) from the field in the win at Texas Tech. Donarski helped Iowa State set a school record in 3-pointers per game, draining a career high seven 3-pointers, as the Cyclones knocked down 19 as a team. She added two boards and an assist in just 23 minutes of action.

This is Mack’s second weekly award of the season and third of her career, while Donarski earned the freshman nod for the second time.

Bump the thread. Fully expect that Ashley to be named Big12 Player of the Week later today. There's a chance Lexi gets her 3rd Freshman of the Week as well. Let's go twister sisters!
