Just got some stats back from July on my wifes' Tesla MYLR
656 miles driven
226 KWh (all home charging)
Total Charging Cost $24.46
Cost per 100 mi/$3.72
She previously drove a VW Tiguan. If we applied the same mileage:
656 miles driven
25 mpg
Total Fuel Cost $91.58
Cost per 100 mi/$13.96
So far in August, the Tesla has been more efficient but we did charge once at a Supercharger. Cost per 100 mile is running around $3.60.
So if I average this out over 12k miles, my costs should look something like this
Tesla $446
Tiguan $1,675
$1,229 Savings
About the same as what our insurance went up
I expect the Tesla to have worse cost per mile in the winter. The Tiguan got a little worse mileage in the winter as well. Also, Mid American is pretty cheap with rates around 11 cents per KW. There are places in California that pay 3x that amount. Just thought of something.....I believe Mid American may have winter electric rates, which are a lot lower.
Probably save another $300-$500 in maintenance per year as well.
In summary, buy one if you prefer the driving experience, which we have so far.
