Actual question here. Who would actually come here and succeed?

Our entire defense will get paid by the blue blood and Heacock probably leaves when Campbell is out. There won't be talent waiting for the new coach. We're in a ****** place for recruting. We have no money for transfers. Not a single person has ever been a consistent winner here. We're still not a top half job in a conference that isnt going to be good at football going forward either if this seasons results tell us anything.

I don't see CMC winning here either in the future so I'm not saying dont fire him. But maybe we gotta call a spade a spade with our place in the CFB world.

There's a lot of good coaches out there who will win somewhere we could hire. But will they win here?
Given the realities of NIL and the transfer portal, I really wonder if anyone can. Makes me sick to say that, but tough coaching jobs are now a whole lot tougher - unless there is NIL money.

College football

College football isn’t college football anymore, for all intents and purposes it is the pro game now. NIL and transfer portal mean a season like is nearly a death sentence. The rebuild will be long and very hard.
So all teams with losing records will never be good and all teams with winning records will stay good?

I think we all got way too excited in 2020. ISU is still a bottom football program. We have a year or two where it looks up and we want to pronounce us a competitive program, but still no. 2020 was an unusually high water mark, but same floundering after. Somehow got NFL talent here but now nothing to replace it.
Imagine what Purdy could have done with an OL and a creative offense. (SF)

No way would pollard do that. We’ll need his buy out to pay his replacement’s buyout.
But wouldn't that be the better scenario than paying Campbell's firing bonus THEN having to pay the hiring buyout for the new coach?

It seemed to work for us with McDermott.

I want a new coach that uses the air raid offense. Just once, I would like to see us spread the field and air that ball out there. Yes, we would have to find a QB with a better arm. You complained about Decker last year; this year's version of the Cyclone QB will not come close to 3,000 yards passing. 1-11 at the end of the season.

Campbell sticks with his assistants and players. Often times longer than he should. Look at the offensive line situation. We finally got a new OL coach 1-2 years too late. Even though ISU changed OL coaches, ISU stuck with the OL players we had and did not bring in anyone from the portal. In part because it took so long to hire the new OL coach that all the portal players went elsewhere. If ISU doesn't use the portal to bring in several OL players, it will take 2-3 years to build a quality OL group.

ISU wont release Campbell but if it happened, I would look at the HC at Idaho.
He has an excellent offensive mind.

The other coach I would look at is the Texas State HC (former Incarnate Word HC)
He has had several very good offenses. He also extensively used the transfer portal to rebuild Texas State this past year.

Give a 30 to 50% bump to all the defensive staff to stay. Maybe even keep most of the offensive staff. Most are new and young. Change the man at the top and the offensive system and that might be enough.

Campbell's system worked when he arrived at ISU but the College football world has changed. NIL, transfer portal and new timing rules to new a few changes. Campbell has to adapt or ISU needs to adapt.

We were there. We had arrived and were actually in playoff discussions. Now we have regressed back to Paul Rhodes / KSU meltdown territory. Gotta be frustrating for an AD that has pumped a massive amount of money into the program.

Well then move the students from the corner to Hilton in front of a big screen on game day and let donor's take their seats. No sense in being half stupid.

Explain to me again why Pollard scheduled a MAC team on the road? I suspect that for some odd reason that CMC expected some recruiting bump and a reward for the Ohio recruits that he has taken from there. But it is a financial decision by JP and I contend that another home game against a similar level team would make more sense with the money generated from home games.
I’m assuming this is why, and I’m sure it was scheduled before we knew Cincy was coming to the Big 12
