Hmmm, I don’t think I’ve even heard of this one, much less played it. Looks intriguing. May have to check it out. Any other courses around that way it could be paired up with for a good, overnight road trip? Could, maybe, pair it up with Deere Run, but that’s a bit of a stretch. Hour and a half between courses.
Lacoma in East Dubuque is nearby. They have 45 holes there. The gold course is very hilly. Eagle Ridge in Galena has a championship level course nearby.

The par 3s at tri city by Luana are supposedly some of the toughest in iowa

Holy crap - I don't think I ever knew that about the place! Would explain a lot, though.

The original 1 and 18 were south of the tracks, next to the cemetery. I believe the marching band's practice field now sits on that space. #18 green and practice green were on the south end, near Bissell Road. #1 green was to the north, toward the tracks.

1938 layout on top, and 1973 layout below. The holes have been renumbered since '73 also.

And FYI - Jester renovations this Winter should remove the layup at #11...

#11 will be a par 5 from all tees, with a 40 to 50 yard wide fairway between the two ponds. No forced carry over water for anyone, and no layup necessary unless you don't want to try to hit the isthmus. #17 will have "taller" tees and the high point of the hill at the top of the dogleg is being lowered 10 feet for visibility.

That is fantastic - thanks for posting. From current aerial imagery (Google Maps) you can still make out the layout of where #18 was. And yep, the band's current practice field is about where #18 green and practice green would have been. Very cool.

I forgot which course it is at Lacoma but it has 2 of the funniest back to back holes. One is a par 4 where you are hitting off a cliff. I'm not sure on vertical drop but it seems to be over 100 feet. The next hole is a driveable par 4 but it is over a valley. A good drive and you are looking at a birdie, a bad drive and you are looking at a double or more.

#1 at the Indianola Country Club. 600 yard Par 5 with a creek sitting about 270 out. Requires most people to take something off the tee shot. From there, it's straight uphill for the remaining 300+ yards with trees lining both sides of the fairway. Not especially tight, but difficult given most people are hitting a hybrid/wood on their second shot. Relatively small green for as difficult of hole as it is.

It would be a hard hole no matter what, but for a starting hole it's a round-ruiner. Nothing gets your confidence up like an 8 on the first hole.

#2 at Marshaltown's American Legion course is like that. 605 with down hill drive towards a creek in the middle. Then you are hitting back up hill to near blind green.

You had to walk thru a tunnel to get to the 2nd and 18th holes
