Percentage of Women Coaches Drops

The percentage of female-led women’s college basketball programs had dropped from 79 percent in 1977 to 59 percent in 2018. Two articles on the subject don't seem to have a definite solution, though the personalities of top coaches cited give their useful (read bickering) input.

WBB is of heightened appeal for many here and so this should be of interest:

"McGraw, the only female head coach at last year’s Final Four, was quoted saying, “People are hiring too many men” to coach women’s college sports. She gave a one-word answer – “No” – when asked if she had any plans to hire another male assistant coach."

"She’s watched those who are hired deal with both systemic and targeted discrimination and harassment. She’s seen how, when women get fired, second chances are hard to come by. And she knows firsthand what it’s like to deal with a level of scrutiny that their male counterparts could never imagine — from focus on their looks, to a policing of their anger. Unparalleled success isn’t enough to stave off the never-ending questioning of their priorities and vision."

Hope this discussion doesn't turn into a pissing match on which WBB Coach is most likely to be a Salem retread. And instead, it should illustrate what could be considered a negative trend for female head coaches.

A new Cyclone Fanatic tee to kick off Pro Day and Spring Football. This shirt is made in agreement with Kyle Kempt and it is something we'd like to do more of in the future. Working with former Iowa State athletes to create shirts with their likeness. Hope everyone enjoys!

Southern Summer Trip - Arkansas, Louisiana and Mississippi

The family and I will be hitting some Southern States for a Zoo trip. We are visiting Zoos in Little Rock, New Orleans and Either Jackson or Hattiesburg, Mississippi. Looking for other suggestions of things to do, places to visit in this area. Anyone have experience in these places.

My son wants to see a Zoo in every state and these 3 will get us to 21 total so that is the reason to visit the cities above.

Thanks in advance for any information.....

cheering for TECH

It's hard for me to believe actually that Texas Tech is in the Final Four. (just cuz of their history). But kudos to them. I really hope they play well and remove Izzo's crew for Monday. Just read an article on the Tech 'defensive' mastermind assistant and how well prepared their team always is and how well they coach their team to know exactly what the other team is doing on offense. Take teams out of their 'game'. Isn't it interesting that not only did we beat them this year, but that final game went down to the wire. In other words, our offense held their own, imo. Unlike some fans, I'm actually more anxious and interested in seeing the team better on defense and rebounding next season, vs. offense.

31 Years Since and Never (Yet!)

Iowa State has only defeated one Men's Basketball National Champion in the year that they won the tournament. This came by defeating Kansas in 1988 in Hilton Coliseum two and a half months before the Jayhawks won the the National Championship.

If Texas Tech wins the National Championship tonight, it will be the second time in program history that the Cyclones had beaten the champs before they cut down the nets at the Final Four. This season would be a bit different though, as it would be the first time that the feat occured on the Champions' home court.

Lyme disease

So since about December I have been having a lot of health issues. Feeling sick, muscle and joint aches, and brain fog. I have been going through all sorts of testing to try and figure out what the hell was wrong. Well about 3 weeks ago, I tested positive for Lyme disease. I went through the 3 weeks of antibiotics for it and just finished up my treatment yesterday. I continue to have aching joints and a ton of fatigue. I told my doctor I still feel like crap and he has basically said we don't need to do anything more at this point. Does anyone have any suggestions of what helps and doesn't help?

Vacuum Recommendations

We currently have one that I hate (was a gift) and the last couple times we've used it, it's been causing or thinking it's causing a short and trips the breaker. Husband did some research and it's apparently a thing with this type of motor. So we could probably fix it but I hate it anyway so we're looking for something different. May fix it and try to Craigslist it. No robot ones for now (though I'd like one) because baby toys are all over the floors.

I've read good things about the cordless Dyson's but looks like there are many options. We really only have two carpeted rooms we use right now, the rest are tile/wood. My preferences are something that doesn't easily tip over and has attachments I can use to dust with. Cordless would be really nice too. We have no pets.

Anyone have opinions?

Good MBB article from Travis Hines

Two parter, lots of stuff we knew, some stuff we didn't. Best news to come out of it was this line:

"Do you expect anyone else to transfer? How are you feeling about the returners?

No, I think everybody’s good. We started workouts. We met Monday. They’re all great. Their work ethic has been really good so far, they’re ready to roll. Tyrese, I think he’s got a chance to take a great step in a leadership role. Prentiss (Nixon) has some of the things we were missing this year defensively to where he can guard the elite perimeter player on the other team, draws charges, can really guard the ball and can make shots. Then a big year for Terrence (Lewis) to have a big summer. He’ll get some opportunities this year that he got a little earlier before Lindell came back. He’ll have a chance to stake claim to some playing time if he can take care of his business.

The frontcourt I feel really good about. George Conditt has a high ceiling. Solo has been very effective at this level, and Mike is coming off a really good year. Then you’ve got the one wild card where Zion (Griffin) played a lot early and then we kind of shut him down because we returned all those guys. He’s the wild card to where if he has a good summer, he can help you at the four because he plays with great energy. We just have to continue to have a really good summer with shooting and skill level so we can play him like a guard."
