WBB: Carleton has a shot at being ISU's all-time leading scorer

A lot needs to go right for her to do it, but Bridget has a shot at becoming ISU's all-time leading scorer.

Current Top 5:
Welle 2149
Wilson 1875
Taylor 1866
Carleton 1833
Olson 1799

Bridget needs:
34 points to pass Taylor
43 points to pass Wilson
167 points to hit 2000
317 to pass Welle

ISU remaining games:
8 regular season
1 to 3 Big 12 Tournament games (barring an utter collapse dropping us down to a 7 seed)
1 to 6 NCAA Tournament games (barring an utter collapse dropping us to the WNIT followed by turning down the WNIT invite because the collapse makes us just want the season to be over)

We'll play at least 10 games, most likely we'll play 12-14 games, and we could play as many as 17 games. For Bridget to be ISU's all-time leading scorer, she'll have to average:

10 games: 31.7 ppg
11 games: 28.8 ppg
12 games: 26.4 ppg
13 games: 24.4 ppg
14 games: 22.6 ppg
15 games: 21.1 ppg
16 games: 19.8 ppg
17 games: 18.6 ppg

She's currently averaging 23.5 ppg in conference games.

Which B12 Football team made the best new HC hire for 2019 season?

Which B12 Football team made the best hire?

  • Kansas - Les Miles (took the previous season off)

    Votes: 6 6.1%
  • Kansas State - Chris Klieman (previously the coach at N. Dakota State)

    Votes: 42 42.9%
  • Texas Tech - Matt Wells (previously the coach at Utah)

    Votes: 25 25.5%
  • West Virginia - Neal Brown (previously the coach at Troy)

    Votes: 25 25.5%

I know that all of these hires are potentially very good for each of their teams. I'm just wondering if any hire stands out for a majority of CF visitors. Perhaps in your comments, you can elaborate and also define who may be the 'worst' hire of the bunch.

Wifi not detected by some devices.

Our wireless router must have updated itself recently and ever since, our Amazon Alexa and an outdoor security camera (dericam) won't detect the wifi signal. TVs, phones, tablets all still connect. The camera works if you plug it into the router during setup, but when you unplug it to setup the wifi, it doesn't detect the signal.

I've tried everything I read on the internet. Running just the 2.4 GHz band, then just the 5 GHz band, changing the security type, changing the wifi mode (was on mixed mode), channel width (was in auto), channel (was in auto). The SSID is being broadcast.

PRESS RELEASE: On Steve Prohm extension

In case anybody wants to read the official release.

AMES, Iowa – Iowa State University announced Tuesday that Head Men’s Basketball Coach Steve Prohm has agreed to a contract extension with the University through June 30, 2025.

“It was important to (Iowa State President) Dr. Wendy Wintersteen, Coach (Steve) Prohm and me that we sent a message to our student-athletes, future recruits and fans that there is a strong mutual desire for Steve to be our men’s basketball coach,” said Jamie Pollard, Director of Athletics. “He is a terrific coach for Iowa State because he is successful, fits our department culture and exhibits great integrity, kindness and humility.”

Prohm’s Cyclone teams have an 83-53 (.610) overall record and three NCAA Tournament appearances. His 2018-19 team finished 23-12 overall. The Cyclones won this year’s Big 12 Conference Tournament in Kansas City, the second such title for Prohm. Iowa State led the Big 12 in scoring offense this season and its offensive and defensive efficiency ratings were among the nation’s best much of this season.

“I couldn’t be more grateful and appreciative for the chance to be the head men’s basketball coach at Iowa State,” Prohm said. “The support of the school administration has been great and what more can be said about the fan base. Whether we’re playing in Hilton Coliseum, Maui, Kansas City or Tulsa, you can count on amazing support. I have one of the elite college jobs in the nation. My family has really settled in Ames, and we want to be here a long time.”

Prohm has won more than 20 games in seven of eight seasons as a college head coach. His career winning percentage (.695), including four seasons at Murray State, is in the Top 30 nationally for coaches with at least five years of experience.

Iowa State in enjoying one of its best-ever seasons competitively and contract extensions agreed to this year by Prohm and football coach Matt Campbell are foundational to continued success. Additionally, Kevin Dresser was just named the national wrestling coach of the year and women’s basketball coach Bill Fennelly won his 500th game at Iowa State this year.

In addition, the Cyclones…

· are currently second in the Big 12 all-sports standings;

· are 36th nationally in the Learfield Director’s Cup after the fall season;

· won Big 12 championships in men’s and women’s cross country and the National Invitation Volleyball Championship last fall;

· were one of 13 schools nationally to play in a bowl game and the NCAA Men’s & Women’s Basketball Tournaments this year;

“I simply could not be more excited about the individuals leading our athletics programs right now,” Pollard said. “We have created a culture of excellence, led by coaches who understand what it takes to be successful at Iowa State.”

Details of Prohm’s contract extension will be available once finalized.

Bill Fennelly's ceiling vs. Iowa State's ceiling

First, I do not want to offer any disrespect to Bill Fennelly. He built Iowa State women's basketball into what it is today, and deserves total credit for everything that ISU has achieved while he has been coaching here.

Nevertheless, I have to wonder if his teams have a tendency to underachieve a little bit, vs the potential being offered to a team with Iowa State's fan support. The fan support being given to women's basketball at ISU is top-notch. Iowa State is consistently in the top 5 nationally in average attendance. Again, this is something that Bill Fennelly deserves total credit for. But yet, the ISU women's basketball team has trouble breaking the top 25 consistently in ratings.

I am torn. Bill Fennelly very much deserves to continue coaching here as long as his health will allow it. But at the same time, I wonder if someone else could take the solid foundation that he has worked so hard to build and turn it into a team with more consistency in staying among the top teams in the country in ratings, and winning in the NCAA tournament.

Twister Sisters on DirecTV tonight (Channell 788)

Also on Dish but I don't know the channel. Saw a tweet about this earlier but now cannot find it.

Note: for DirecTV customers this game does not show up when you search 'Iowa State'. If I hadn't seen the tweet I would not have known.

Much better than the wrap around crapola that ESPN2 has tonight that seems to just wrap around the Twister Sisters.

Pack Hilton if you are close but 788 for those of us in Texas to far to be there.

Radon testing

We had our house tested for radon when we moved in in the fall of 2014. It tested very low, but I was wondering if I should have it tested again just to make sure. How often should I have it tested? I am also wondering if one of those home tests that you send in is OK, or if I need to have it professionally tested.

What I know about the Prohm/Alabama speculation...

Just figured I'd put something out on this since it's such a hot topic right now nationally.

As of now, I just don't think there is anything to it. I can't find anything of substance other than the national guys speculating on Prohm's name, which I totally understand due to his connections there. That's just how this business works. Find ties, who knows what AD, who was an assistant where, etc.

From what I know, Prohm is happy at Iowa State and wants to stay for the foreseeable future.

There is always the financial caveat. March is weird and things get silly this time of season.

But again - as of now - I think this is a non-story.

Will be sure to update you all on anything if I believe that changes.

Chart of 2017-2018 playing time

I kept a chart of playing time throughout the 2017-2018 season. I have done this for a few years -- it helps show some trends in rotations, roster development, and, in hindsight, telling the "story" of the season. That is definitely the case this year with different colors phasing in and out. The Talley "ski slope" at the end of the season was particularly memorable.

Without further ado, here it is...

I have these back to Georges' junior year if anybody wants to see more.

Just what if

Next year we have

Prohm as head coach
Lard stays
Wiggs Stays
THT stays
Add Nixon
Add three incoming recruits
George finds the weight room

We add a grad transfer. I want some positives. Sick of seeing the negatives that everyone is leaving including our coach. I think everyone stays except maybe Zion or Lewis. Which would suck but we could add someone more ready to step in.

Thank you Twister Sisters

This year has been absolutely great to watch your games. You had fight and toughness that many could take lessons from. You played with heart and you played as a team and you made me (and I'm pretty much sure everyone else here) proud to be a Cyclone.

Good job and great luck with all your future endeavors, whether "out there" or back in the raucous confines of Hilton next year.

Thanks for the memories, you were outstanding!
