Country Music: The Beat That’s Killing The Genre

I stumbled upon this video on YouTube and it was like Chris Williams was speaking directly to me. I’m a huge country fan but am on Chris’ bandwagon and HATE “douche country” (AKA bro country, tailgate country, pop country, stadium country, etc.). This video kind of explains what’s wrong with most of today’s country songs and is a super interesting watch if you're a music nerd like me .

Twister Sister Summary

What a valiant effort by the ladies! I have to give Baylor credit, they took every push ISU had and answered back. Between their height and quickness they just wore the sisters out. They focused on Carlton and effectively shut her down. They also did a great job of guarding the perimeter. What we had was a young woman named Middleton who played her heart out.

The Bears started out strong and actually built a 12 point lead early. The way the sisters answered back said that this was going to be a wild game. Right up until the fourth quarter the sisters were neck and neck with the number one team in the country. Unfortunately, one of our patented scoring droughts...part defense and part tired legs ended the game with about seven minutes left to play. There was nothing left in the tank.

Again, any team that holds the sisters to 49 points is doing something. For the sisters, not gettin any offensive production out of Wise, Scott and shooting 20% from three will kill the Clones. We had open looks and they just didn’t fall. Two stats will jump out at you (beyond Carlton only scoring 13 points). First, and no surprise, we were out rebounded by ten. Even more startling were the assists. Five for the sisters and 17 for Baylor. Here’s another shocker. Baylor didn’t make (and only shot 3) a single three pointer. You knew they were tough inside and we just don’t have the size to battle with them there. If there is one piece missing from this fantastic team it’s a big on the inside that’s as sizable and talented as what Baylor has.

Losing to Baylor is no surprise. They have advantages no one else in the conference has and Mulkey has built a monster there. Next up is another opportunity to okay back at Hilton. There is a possibility the ladies can get a three seed. At worst a four. Let’s pack that place and cheer the ladies into the sweet 16!

On That Note - This Year's Model

Hi and welcome to another edition of On That Note. CF's weekly post on music topics, hosted alternately by myself, @CycloneRulzzz and @cyclones500.

Last week's post on the topic of "Have A Drink On Me" can be found here: https://cyclonefanatic.com/forum/threads/on-that-note-have-a-drink-on-me.246380/page-7#post-6568022

This week's topic is "This Year's Model". Described as: songs that specifically mention a car Make (Ford, Chevrolet, Dodge, Mercedes etc) or a vehicle Model (Corvette, Mustang, GTO, Beetle, etc.). Mention can be in the title, lyrics or both.

One caveat, songs that mention the word, "car" or "automobile" but DO NOT call out a Make or Model are ineligible (example - the Beatles' Drive My Car). Or even songs about car situations that don't include a Make or Model are not eligible (such as Chuck Berry's No Particular Place to Go).

As usual, I will kick the topic off with 5 that popped into my cranial cavity as I pondered the topic.

Eddie Cochran - Somethin' Else: "My car's out front and it's all mine, just a 41 Ford, not a '59..."

The Kinks - Cadillac: Not only do the lyrics mention the Cadillac, they even spell it, "C A D I L L A C!" (FYI, original version was by Bo Diddley)

Dwight Yoakam - Long White Cadillac: Sticking with the Cadillac theme here. Yes pulling something from the country genre.. surprise!

Chuck Berry - My Mustang Ford: There are several songs meeting the criteria from this Rock and Roll legend. Other CFers can post them. I like this lesser known gem.

The Refreshments - 55 Ford: No explanation needed. See my Avatar. Yes, it's a '55 Ford.

Big 12’s Women’s Tournament back in KC 2021-2024

Just a quick reminder and some Great News to The Cyclone Family

The Big 12 Women’s Basketball tournament is coming back to KC for 2021-2024 seasons!

I’ve never experienced the women’s tournament but definitely plan on it in KC.

Is it still the week before the mens or are they planning on doing the girls and guys the same week?

They are planning on using the remodeled Municipal Auditorium it sounds like.
Should be a good time!

Thanks!

Kansas City...Big 12 Run, etc

Man, I really hope ISU fans turn out in massive numbers like we have in past seasons. This team is one great run away from giving us wonderful lasting memories. Makai Mason might not play for Baylor. Dean Wade is probably out for K-State. Let's do this!

Every Saturday morning there is a 5k or 12k run in downtown KC. ISU usually has a good turnout and I'm hoping this year will be no different. Get signed up, stick around for the beer after, and enjoy the camaraderie with fans from opposing teams.

Let's go State!
