Above Ground Pools

I know there are some folks here as trashy as me and rock the above ground pool. I’ve thrown a couple patches (from the pool store) at ours and they’ve held steady.

I just filled it up for the summer and have a leak at the seam. Any tips on sealing this thing up around a seam?

Golf lessons

My son is thinking about going out for golf next year as a freshman. He’s basically played a few times and that’s it.

Was thinking about getting some lessons for him this summer, I don’t play. I don’t think he expects to play the tournaments but I don’t want him to be terrible, that’s no fun.

Any recommendations in the Des Moines/Ankeny areas?

ESPN's Streaming Service Will Cost Up To $30/mo

Details have been coming out over the past year or so but this is the first time I've seen pricing announced.

There are two plans that will be available through the revamped ESPN app: an unlimited subscription for $30 per month and a select plan for $12 per month. The former includes all of ESPN's linear networks. You'll be able to watch (deep breath) ESPN, ESPN2, ESPNU, SECN, ACCN, ESPNEWS and ESPN Deportes live, as well as ESPN on ABC, ESPN+, ESPN3, SECN+ and ACCNX. ESPN's press release does not mention the inclusion of ESPN8 The Ocho, a free ad-supported streaming channel that features all kinds of strange and wonderful sports.

Along with studio shows and original programming like the 30 for 30 films, the unlimited plan offers access to 47,000 live events every year plus on-demand replays, ESPN says. That includes games from the big four North American sports leagues, along with the NWSL, PGA Tour, UFC, Big 12, the College Football Playoff, dozens of NCAA championships, major European soccer leagues, three of the tennis grand slam tournaments and much more. The select plan, meanwhile, is basically what ESPN+ is now.

Way Too Early Football Poll - Ranked 11

Looks like we are ranked at 11 in the poll.

We all know it’s early , but as Chris and Brent have said early projections actually do matter. Maybe we get some love, when it matters.

Cyclone Silent Auction - Closed

NOTICE: Auction Close has moved to Wed night at 8pm based on feedback and expected energy levels this week.

Due to some unforeseen and growing needs related to our family's situation, I'm selling the remainder of my favorite Cyclone Collectibles. I'd like to do so in a silent auction type format, but none of the "free" charity auction sites are actually free.

Since there is no good way to do this, I have linked a Google Form as a bid sheet and will try to update this post as often as possible with the current highest amount. The winning bidder will submit payment via our GoFundMe page and we will ship out within a couple days (the large framed picture will be the hardest). Ames and Waukee area arrangements can also be made for pickup to save money and shipping.

Auction Close: Friday, May 16th at 8pm CST
Auction Close: Wednesday, May 14th at 8pm CST

2025 NFL schedule release

With the schedule coming out tonight is there a game you are looking forward to?

I will probably go to a game this year, it couldn't be the weekend of a Cyclones home game and will need to have a Cyclone presence on a team.

A few I am considering

49ers at Browns
Jets at Bills
Lions at Philadelphia
Jets at Denver (hoping for same week as CU game)
49ers at Colts
Texans at Titans
Any game in Detroit

Any others standout?

I should add I would like to go somewhere new. GB, MN, Chicago and KC are out.

Most interesting tie in school history?

According to Iowa State's fact book (media guide) the Cyclones tied 46 games.

Against Marquette in 1951, Cyclone George Hess had 601 punting yards, were outgained 240-5, had 47 rushes for five yards, attempted zero passes and recorded one first down against Marquette in 1951.

Iowa State led 6-0 at half thanks to Bob Rohwedder's 42 yard pick six.

A 73 yard pass to Hilltopper freshman Ron Drzewiecki (drafted 11th overall in the 1955 NFL Draft) with about three minutes left tied the game at 6.

Ames restaurants with a party room?

As the thread name implies, looking for suggestions on Ames restaurants with a party room. We have a group of college friends getting together with families for a friend's 40th birthday. Families include a number of children under the age of 10, so emphasis on a place that is family-friendly, or at least doesn't mind kids who are LOUD. Going the men's game on December 15th, but looking for go out to dinner the evening of the 14th. I know that Jethro's up there has some kind of room, but if folks have other suggestions, that would be appreciated. Not sure how many people, but let's say 20ish for now. Thanks!

Rocky Mountain National Park Vacation - Question

My family and I have booked our vacation to Estes Park, CO, for early August. We are spending a week there and the plan is to spend most of the time at RMNP.

Does anyone have recent experience with the timed entry system? My concern is how much of the park we can realistically expect to have access to given the high demand, parking, etc. You can get into the park without a timed entry pass as long as you arrive before 9AM which is no problem for us. We are staying 5 minutes from the entrance and I'd like to be there no later than 7:30am most days.

You can only get into the Bear Lake area without a pass if you arrive before 5am which is impossible for us. So, we need to get a pass to get to that area.

My questions are:
1) How hard is it to get a timed entry pass to Bear Lake? I see the passes open up for our time frame on July 1. They also hold another 40% back until the night before so there's another opportunity there.
2) How bad is parking in the park? I see they have a shuttle system for the Bear Lake area. What about in the non-Bear Lake area?

Any other things to be aware of or consider? Our plan is to get there early, hike in the morning, have a picnic lunch and do additional hiking before leaving in the afternoon.
