Wigginton Needs to Stay Here

Wigginton has the ability to dominate games. He needs to work on his jump shot to be more consistent. He can slash to the basket better than 99% of all college players, but he doesn't make the opposition pay when they sag to stop his penetration. Wigginton should be a dominant jump shooter something like Stephon Curry. I'm not saying Wigginton is as good as Curry, but
Wigginton's abilities can be nearly as dominant at this level. Wigginton needed to just take over the game against OSU, but wasn't able to because his jump shot wasn't as consistent as it needed to be. Just my two cents. If I were a NBA scout, I wouldn't recommend Wigginton as a high round pick right now.

Invisible Dog Fence

I apologies if there is an extensive thread on this topic that I missed when looking for one.

Here's my dilemma, the roommate recently bought a puppy for the kids as an xmas present (6 pound little barking cat). While the dog hasn't been as big of an issue as I originally planned, the topic of a fence for the backyard is firmly at the center of discussion. I have a fairly large back yard and live in town. A buddy of mine that works in construction gave me a few ideas and basically said my little fence project is likely in the ball park of atleast 4 grand after it's all said and done if I want material that I am not gonna have to replace any time soon. 4K is not a price I can do at this time.

Therefore, what do people know about invisible dog fences? I've heard they don't work well but is this operator error? What do they cost? TIA

Twister Sister Summary...the Fun Continues

What a pleasure this team is to watch. I’ve touted so many characteristics of this team that make it a joy to watch. First and foremost...they are a team in every sense of the word. They care about each other and I mean care about every member of the team. They are selfless. Sharing. Hard nosed. Supremely talented. They find joy in the game. If you haven’t seen them yet, you have one more chance at Hilton.

Today's game started out with both teams showing they could hit the three. Right out of the blocks it was one team offsetting the other with a basket and suddenly it was 8-8. That was the last time the game was close. From there the Sisters would clamp down on defense and continue scoring and the lead was 8 before you knew what happened. Early on it was done with limited contribution by Carlton. Middleton was putting on a clinic of ball handling and slicing to the hoop. One move out did the next all night long. The threes were falling as Joens would connect...heck...nearly everyone was connecting. I could go on about each player (EVERY player on the team scored), but this was a team win. The extra passes, the rebounding, the offensive boards, everything just took the spirit out of NMSU. The team literally ran them to death. By the end of the first half NMSU looked gassed. It showed on the scoreboard as well as the ladies led 50-26.

The third quarter was more of the same. Shut down defense, steals, break away baskets, crisp passing, it was all too much for NMSU as they led 80-44 when the bench started to see the court. I have to mention one player right off the bat. Nez was a monster out there today. She was like a magnet on the boards pulling down FOURTEEN of them. She was strong and aggressive. She helped on double teams. She had assists. She scored half a dozen points. She was inspiring to watch and received a standing ovation when she left the floor. Though Kristen wasn’t connecting from deep she had post moves that would make Shaq jealous. She made the NMSU players look pedestrian. Middleton not only hit for 15 points, but dished out 9 of ISU's 22...yes...22 assists on 34 made shots. Carlton was all over the floor. Not perfect, but the awesome senior leader doing her thing. Her 23 points were very workmanlike and we saw her end up on the floor many times.

One of my favorite stats is always free throw shooting. How does 87% sound? And on 23 attempts? Yep, these ladies just swished one after another hitting 20 of them. If fouls would have been called that were obvious we probably would have shot close to 40. The strength of this game was illustrated when Coach Fen substituted out all the starters with nearly nine minutes left in the game. While the subs didn’t score a lot, they still played salty defense against the NMSU starters. Every time a sub would score, the team on the bench would jump and clap. The crowd would go nuts. Especially fun was seeing A D Camber hit her first two treys. The smile on Coach Fen's face spoke volumes. When Mills scored the last points of the game, the team rushed her like she had set a record. What a fun group.

Monday will bring a much bigger challenge. Missouri State has some really good three point shooters. They play aggressive defense and can take you out of your flow. If the officials let them get away with their physical play it could be a close game. Of utmost importance is not leaving their shooters open on the perimeter. Are they as good as ISU? No. But they beat a higher seeded team and smacked Drake around twice this year. They are a very real threat. If we get the effort we had today and continue to hit our shots the Sisters will be ok. Defense will be critical. Let’s really pack the Hilton. Let’s get the men's team fans and the students in Hilton to make the place rock and roll. See you there!

Lard

When you need a beast to body up and not take any **** down in the post make sure you bring your own junkyard dog. We got ours.

I loved watching him not take anything from the crap Ohio State gave him. Twice, at minimum, he was hit with an elbow to the face and he still battled like a spartan in 300 taking names and kicking ass. I'm so glad for Cam to come full circle this season. For all the haters and doubters, Cam is a beast and can't wait to see more of him in the Cardinal and yellow.

That is all.

P.S. **** Ohio State

Cal basketball

Lost it’s 16th game in a row tonight. They are 5-22 right now and likely will finish the year at 5-26. Are they one of the worst teams ever from a major conference? (Debateable if the Pac 12 qualifies as that anymore) I know Oregon State has had some historically bad teams recently.

Also looked like Darius McNeill lost his starting spot after some bad games. Tough year for him. His team is also 2-31 in the Pac 12 since he started playing there.

Wigginton: Out of Control or hated by refs?

So many times last night and this season, Wigginton would gut out a tough drive to the basket. I'm not talking about the drives where he would bounce the ball off his foot, or lose control of the ball before getting to the hoop. I'm talking about the drives where he would literally beat his primary defender, cut through 1-2 more, and get right to the rim for a tough contested layup/dunk. There would always seem to be a lot of contact. Bodies (always Lindell's, sometimes others) would end up on the floor. I have no stat to back this up, but I feel as though a foul was called <25% of the time. What was this all about? Wigginton try to sell something that wasn't there, and just being a wild, high-flying athlete flopping, hoping to get a whistle? He would normally cry out, fall to the ground etc. Normally they wouldn't show a replay, so I never went back to see how many times he was actually fouled. I feel as though he got more calls on 3's than he did on 2's.

This happened a lot to NWB too

Thank You Cyclones Men's Basketball Team!!!

Just want to thank you guys for the great season. I'm sure that that the grind of being a student-athlete in a pressure filled spotlight isn't easy, but a lot of us fanatics really appreciate it. Countless hours in the gym and on the road can't be easy.

This season was filled with highs and lows, but so is life. If your career is over at Iowa State, good luck in whatever you do. Nothing you have shown us this year would make us assume that you will have nothing but success in whatever you do. If you are coming back, we will be right back here bleeding cardinal and gold for you next year.

Friday OT #1 - All That David Copperfield Kind of Crap

Thanks so much to @cyclones500 for another great OT idea! He had read this article: https://www.washingtonpost.com/graphics/2019/entertainment/books/best-last-lines/

What are your favorite last and first lines in all of literature?

The first paragraph of Catcher In the Rye is iconic, and pretty hard to beat, IMO:

"If you really want to hear about it, the first thing you'll probably want to know is where I was born, and what my lousy childhood was like, and how my parents were occupied and all before they had me, and all that David Copperfield kind of crap, but I don't feel like going into it, if you want to know the truth."

As much as it's too well-known, Tale of Two Cities is pretty timeless. Not sure it's even in my top 5, but good.

Some of my other favorites - combined with Catcher, they also round out some of my favorite books:

Pride & Prejudice:
“It is a truth universally acknowledged, that a single man in possession of a good fortune, must be in want of a wife.”

Fahrenheit 451:
"It was a pleasure to burn."

Slaughterhouse-Five:
"All this happened, more or less."

The Great Gatsby:
"In my younger and more vulnerable years my father gave me some advice that I've been turning over in my mind ever since. 'Whenever you feel like criticizing any one,' he told me, 'just remember that all the people in this world haven't had the advantages that you've had.'"

What are yours?

Why so angry this year

Message boards are a cess pool and being a fan was much more fun when they weren't around. But it's not like I can blame anyone for being on them since I think they are awful and here I am.

But my main question is why is there so much anger this year? The absolute hatred towards the team and the coaches is sickening. We were picked to finish 6th. We finished 5th. Like plenty of good teams we lost in the first round of the tournament. It happens.

The argument that a lot will make is that this team is a lot more talented than the season indicated. That could be true. But I tend to think that was very talented but also had limitations. And when you have specific limitations, you lose games.

It will be a cold day in hell when I will be disappointing in a 23 win season, with a Big 12 tourney championship, and an NCAA bid. Was it the best thing ever? Of course not. But was it a good season? Yes. And, as a fan, I am allowed to think that. I expect the coaches and players are disappointed and will work to fix what happened. I think a lot of you seem to think that success is measured only as "the greatest season that ever was" or "the worst of the worst, they did nothing right". It's not a binary thing. It's a good season with plenty of great things that happened and plenty of bad things that happened (and two really ******* awful things!).

I hope that Prohm is our coach next year. But one could hardly blame him for leaving because I bet a large portion of you idiots are tweeting and emailing him that same ******** that you are spewing on here and the Iowa State basketball facebook page.

If you are one of the fans that is so ******* angry that they think we should change coaches, then I invite you to go be a Nebraska fan or a SDSU fan or an Iowa fan. Why subject yourself to be as miserable as you apparently are?

An objective (as it gets) outlook at the game

1) Prohm could have done more. I like Prohm as our HC and support him, but c'mon man. Show us some emotion, some urgency. How do we expect the players to act poised when our HC is lost? He's a great recruiter and I think he can still be a great HC here, but overall was disappointed with his demeanor tonight.

2) Why not give Talley a chance? Babb played 40mins and did he really earn all of those minutes? Did he play bad? No. But neither has Talley in the mins he has played this year.

3) I do respect Prohm sitting THT for most of the second half/ Just wasn't his night.

4) Gonna miss Shayock. Dude played a great game and wouldn't have had a chance if he wasn't on the floor.

5) Impressed with how Lard and Wigginton played. Gave us energy and made some big plays down the stretch.

6) The future is still bright. I like our recruits coming in next year. Obviously gonna have to wait and see what kind of attrition we experience but Prohm can recruit and we are going to have some big time B12 players return next year

Help for idiot

I recently acquired a 4-wheeler. Last weekend, after riding it a little, I put it back on a trickle charger like its always on since it doesn't get used much. But, I left the switch and key on. Now it does nothing when I turn the key. Sometimes the speedo will come on but doesn't turn over or even click. Volt meter says battery has 7 volts. What else could it be?

WBB Walk Up Tix on Monday

Would like to bring my daughter (who is 6) to the women’s game on Monday. Will I be able to walk up and just buy tix from the box office on Monday or would it be best to make arrangements before hand? We will have a two hour drive to Ames and probably won’t head that way until after work at 4:30 or so.

Just didn’t know if ticket situation was very different since it’s ncaa
