HSA Plan Question

Son had his wisdom teeth taken out a few weeks ago. He paid through his HSA plan. Yesterday he got like around $500 back from the oral surgeon. Would he have to put that back into his HSA or consider it like a regular check and just cash it? They only took 3 of his 4 wisdom teeth, so wondering if the might be the reason. He is going to get back with the oral surgeon to understand why he got it back. I've never had an HSA plan before so this something new to me. Anyone else have a similar type situation? TIA!

100 Greatest Iowa Athletes

I have been following a podcast this week that is counting down the 100 greatest Iowa athletes. They are defining "Iowan" by athletes who spent their formative years in the state. I think Gable, Feller, Collison, Hinrich, Korver, Shawn Johnson, Kurt Warner will all probably be in the Top 10-15.

Some Cyclones on the list so far:
85. Lisa Uhl
71. Mike Busch
61. Loren Meyer
57. Gary Thompson
52. Sage Rosenfels
38. Glen Brand
29. Fred Hoiberg

Info: Regarding the "Super Fanatic" upgrades

First of all, thanks to the Fanatics who have already signed up. Without each and everyone of your loyalty, this site would not exist.

I just wanted to clarify a few things for everybody.

1) I never intended for this thing to go "live" when it did. That's why it wasn't 100 percent ready to go when you all started signing up. So I do sincerely apologize for that. The developer hit the button, I didn't know it and you guys did what you do and started supporting it, which I appreciate.

2) I had a good talk with the dev this morning and I told him that we need to expedite the ad-free mobile option. I don't want you all feeling ripped off about this.

3) I do want to start having Patreon/Super Fanatic get togethers. Please give me until after the season to get that all organized. I'll also start actually promoting this new aspect of the site at that time as well.

Anyway, that's where we are at on it.

You'll also like to know that we have already paid for and are currently developing a new CF app. Should be awesome. We're told it'll be ready late spring/summer. We are using Patreon funds to build it.

Thanks all! Please hit me up if you ever have any questions.

Subway Etiquette Question

Should he have to wait in line?

  • Yes

    Votes: 49 35.5%
  • No

    Votes: 91 65.9%

So I was at Subway with a friend today over lunch. The was probably a good 6-7 people waiting to order with 3-4 people being in the process of ordering. An older gentleman arrives and bypasses the line and goes directly to the cashier and orders a gift card.

I think he should have to wait in line. There's several people trying to get through and order a gift card takes time and delays the line. My friend says the point of the line is to order a sandwich, and since he didn't order a sandwich he shouldn't have to wait in line.

So I leave it to the good people of Cyclone Fanatic to solve this debate.

First "major" golf event of the season!

Top 50 players in the world in attendance. Golf season is officially underway.

I was lucky enough to play TPC Sawgrass a month ago so I'm pretty jacked to watch this year's tournament. The change in date back to the original date should make things interesting. The wind was brutal when I was playing.

CFB Bowl Game conference affiliation changes coming in 2020

Appears no changes for the Big 12 line-up though.

"Beginning in 2020, the Las Vegas Bowl will annually feature a team from the Pac-12 against a team from the SEC or Big Ten, and a new bowl in Los Angeles will feature the Pac-12 against the Mountain West, sources told Stadium.

Other changes: The ACC will add the Holiday Bowl, the SEC and Big Ten will rotate between the Las Vegas and the Belk bowls, and the Outback Bowl will feature an ACC team if a Big Ten team is in the Orange Bowl, sources said.

The new conference tie-ins are expected to become official by May, when the NCAA’s new bowl cycle, from 2020-25, is formally announced.

Changes for the new bowl cycle starting in 2020, sources told Stadium, include:

The Las Vegas Bowl
In 2020, the Las Vegas Bowl moves from UNLV’s Sam Boyd Stadium to the new Las Vegas NFL stadium. In the course of the six-year deal, the SEC and Big Ten will each make three appearances against the Pac-12 in the Las Vegas Bowl. It’s expected to be either the third or fourth Pac-12 team after the Rose and Alamo Bowls are filled. It’s unknown what selection the SEC and Big Ten would send from their respective conference.

This will mark the first Pac-12 and SEC non-playoff bowl matchup since the 1989 Freedom Bowl. The Pac-12 currently plays bowl games against each of the Power 5 conferences except for the SEC. The two conferences have played in only nine non-College Football Playoff/New Year’s 6 bowls.

The Belk Bowl
The Charlotte-based bowl will rotate an SEC or Big Ten team, based on which league is in the Las Vegas Bowl. The Charlotte Bowl annually will feature an ACC team between 2020-25 against either an SEC or Big Ten team, with each league making three appearances. If an SEC team is in Las Vegas, a Big Ten team will be in Charlotte, and vice versa.

The new Los Angeles Bowl at Los Angeles Stadium at Hollywood Park
The new LA bowl will feature the Pac-12 against the Mountain West. This is basically the old Las Vegas Bowl matchup with the bowl getting the first selection from the Mountain West against a Pac-12 team. The Los Angeles Stadium at Hollywood Park opens in 2020 and will also host the 2023 College Football Playoff title game. This bowl is huge for the Mountain West, especially after its 19-year tie-in with the Las Vegas Bowl ends after this season.

The Holiday Bowl
With the Big Ten playing in Las Vegas and Belk, the Big Ten will not be affiliated with the Holiday Bowl after 2019 and will be replaced by the ACC. The San Diego-based bowl will feature the Pac-12 against the ACC from 2020-25.

The Gator Bowl
Starting in 2020, the Jacksonville-based bowl will feature an ACC vs. SEC matchup each season.

The Music City Bowl
Starting in 2020, the Nashville-based bowl will feature an SEC vs. Big Ten matchup each season.

The Outback Bowl
The Tampa-based bowl will still feature an SEC vs. Big Ten matchup, as it has since 1995. However, starting in 2020, when a Big Ten team earns a berth to the Orange Bowl, an ACC team will take the Big Ten’s place in the Outback Bowl. This arrangement previously was with the Citrus Bowl.

The Arizona Bowl
This year will mark the Sun Belt’s final season in the Arizona bowl. Starting in 2020, the Tucson-based bowl will pit the Mountain West against the Mid-American Conference.

The Myrtle Beach Bowl
The new bowl created by ESPN begins in 2020 and will feature teams from Conference USA, the Mid-American and Sun Belt. Each conference will play four times between 2020-25.

Starting with the new bowl cycle in 2020, here are the guaranteed minimum bowl tie-ins per conference (not including any teams that appear in the College Football Playoff):

ACC, SEC – 11
Big Ten – 9
Pac-12 – 8
Big 12 – 7
American – 7
Conference USA – 7
Mid-American – 6
Mountain West – 6
Sun Belt – 5

Army & BYU each can secure its own automatic bowl tie-in, but the remaining independents (Liberty, UMass and New Mexico State) must hope for an at-large spot from a conference that can’t fill all of its allotments in a specific year. Notre Dame remains part of the ACC’s bowl lineup if the Irish don’t qualify for a College Football Playoff or New Year’s 6 Bowl berth."

Jeopardy! Online Test

Anybody else take it over the past couple days? I just finished it. I have no idea how well I did - they get manually scored for partial and/or misspelled answers. I'm guessing somewhere between 25 - 30 out of the 50 questions. There were probably 10 that I left blank because I just had no idea. It was fun, but don't look for me to be on the show anytime soon...

On That Note - 3 is a Magic Number

Hi and welcome to another edition of On That Note. CF's weekly post on music topics, hosted alternately by myself, @MeanDean and @cyclones500 .

For this week's topic we are looking bands that either has 3 letters in its name or is commonly abbreviated with 3 letters.

This topic could lead to a lot of 3 word groups that get put in so I'm putting this rule clarification out there.

To clarify a "... 3-letter abbreviation of a group's name is allowed, but only if it's used commonly or interchangeably with the full version."

Also if part of the 3 is a number that's fine. Basically what we are looking for is a title with 3 characters.

For this topic we aren't looking for 3 letter groups that have The before I.E. a group Like THE WHO. There is plenty of stuff out there for this topic.

Try to limit yourself to 2 songs from a particular group. It's OK to use a band already posted, but try not to post a song that's been used.

I watched the Twister Sisters go down to BU ...

Can someone explain why there is such disparity in WBB both in-conference and nationally? Is it just that there are not enough talent girls in high school, that has to be it? I mean even Texas is fading. K-State's working at it, but gosh. Ku hasn't been good for decades.

ISU played their collective butts off, but for me, it seemed the game outcome was never in question. BU has two trees in the middle that the Cyclones just couldn't get around.
