I was just in Boston a couple weeks ago, and i swear to God I found an eight road intersection. It must have looked like an asterisk from above. I had no idea what stoplight applied to what road. Thank God the cabbie knew what he was doing.

By "knew what he was doing" you mean that he just didn't heed any stoplight or stop sign that I saw, and I was watching closely. :skeptical:

Another thing is they don't do is creep out into the intersection to make a left hand turn at a light. They'll wait at the white line and wait the entire green light has passed and will never go on yellow. But they would honk at me when I did it. I was once stuck behind a lady for 3 light cycles till she went through.

Must have been my wife:biglaugh:

New York City is horrible, upstate (and by that I basically mean north of the Tappan Zee bridge) is no problem. They are purely offensive drivers, and they seem to think that the right of way is not something dictated by law, but something that must be taken. For example, when merging or changing lanes, you basically have to force your car in front of the person next to you, and assume they will let you because they don't want to damage their car. There's no sense of sharing the road, it is simply a constant game of chicken.

I absolutely disagree with where they have New York rated. Most people think people in New York are the worst drivers, but I disagree. It takes a certain amount of skill to drive in New York, and midwesterners are just not taught it. Defensive driving tactics do not work in New York, and all of their drivers know it. Let this one mull in your minds a little bit - there are countless millions of drivers on the road everyday in New York, and you hear of maybe 10 accidents at most on a daily basis. Another thing - people who are not comfortable driving there DO NOT DRIVE. My cousin is afraid to get behind the wheel. Instead of gutting it out and causing problems on the road she has other people drive her.

My buddy who is an NYC cop would disagree with you. I can't even begin to count how many f-bombs he drops when describing the drivers there.

Where the Worst Drivers Live- Yahoo! Autos Article Page

Here is an article listing the states with the best and worst drivers. Here's the break down for the Big XII states.

#4 - Kansas
#5 - Nebraska
#8 - Iowa
#15 tie - Colorado - Missouri
#17 - Oklahoma
#24 - Texas

I was surprised Missouri was listed so high after living there for 6 years.
It is a common fact that cars in Missouri cost $650 less to buy than anywhere else in the country because they come without turn signals.

Where do you think the worst driver are?

Texas has GOT to be wrong. Rated way too high. Every time I see some idiot passing cars and going about twice as fast as anyone else, he has Texas plates.

Speaking of Texas, I was there last week and I made a little observation. My god they love their state. You can't go 2 feet without seeing something with a Texas emblem.

That's like the opposite of what I thought it would be. The smaller states were the worst, and the bigger states were the best.

My first answer was going to be the west side of Iowa City, which is where most of the international students reside. Having read the thread and noticed it's a broader scope, I'll second those who have already nominated Detroit and NYC, though the motorcycle riders in LA merit mention as well.

I used to work for a NJ based company, with required quarterly trips to the home office. A few of us would go in early and spend a day on Manhattan. Our last trip in, a co-worker from Wisconsin was responsible for the rental car, so he was the designated driver. We'd probably still be sitting at the merge into the Lincoln Tunnel if I hadn't commandered the driver's seat! "Wisconsin Nice" doesn't cut it in NYC; heck aggressive Chicago-style driving will get you eaten alive!

This is my experience, but I'll throw in that my NY / NJ friends tell me that Boston is hands-down the worst city in which to drive...

After driving quite a bit in South Carolina and Georgia, I would agree with this list. The left lane is the cruising lane and the right lane is the passing lane. Don't ask me why, that's just how it works.

The correct answer is Omaha, Nebraska. Good god, I don't think they teach driver's education in this city. If they do it must go something like this:

1) Start vehicle
2) Put vehicle in "Drive"
3) Do whatever the **** you want
4) Pretend you are the only vehicle on the road at all times

And for the last time, YOU CAN'T MAKE A LEFT TURN FROM DODGE! :arghh: (you may have to have lived in Omaha to understand that).

I just got back from driving from college station, tx to iowa and have been to texas many times. I have always found their drivers to be very good, very courteous. If you're on a 2 lane road, people will often pull off onto the shoulder for you so that you can pass.

Much better than some other states:

Oklahoma drivers. dear god. drive like idiots.
Michigan drivers: left lane campers
Atlanta drivers: east coast aggressive, southern country not paying to what theyre diong.

Living in Massachusetts it was not a surprise at all to see them at #45. When people ask me what the biggest difference between Iowa and MA is, I tell them it is the drivers. No one seems to know the rules of driving or pay attention to what they are doing here. At the same time, they are very aggressive in their driving. It is unbelievable how bad they are really.

Cab drivers in Boston are the worst. I terrorize them on purpose any chance I get. Also, they rip off their customers any chance they get. I've yet to have a cab ride that went well.

Having lived in Minnesota for a few years before I moved back to Iowa, I would have to say the Wisconsin residents that work in the Twin Cities. Especially in the winter-time. I can't believe that when the first snow hits, people completely forget how to drive. I'd say 70% of the time it's morons in 4WD Trucks/SUVs who think that 4WD makes them invincible and makes their tires magically stick to ice. Guess what...nothing sticks to ice...

As for Texas, the only issue I had when them, is that when they want to get somewhere quick, you better move out of the way. But if you want to get there quick, they'll move for you too. So I guess they're not bad drivers, but some of them are pretty crazy in their blatant disregard for anything resembling a speed limit.

well, with the distances involved between getting from one part of texas to another, you begin to understand the disregard for speed limits. I love it, you can cruise at 85 through most of their roads.

Born and raised in Iowa but have lived in Hawaii, Arizona, California, and now Missouri. By far the worst is Missouri. The cops dont know how to use turn signals.

Wisconsin. Left lane campers galore.

Left lane camping is not only annoying, its dangerous, especially in hilly, curvy areas.
