Some info I found:

Hokay, after reading through the licensing and trademark stuff on the ISU site, we could potentially have the shirts done through a licensed screen printer and be able to use the I-State logo, etc...

These are some of the screen printers who are licensed under ISU. They're all in the Ames/DM area except one that's in Marion. They may be able to order in the army camo shirts wholesale, so it's cheaper. I haven't looked into any of the sites yet to see what they offer.

Obviously, the more shirts that are ordered, the cheaper they are. And if we stick with one color printing vs. 2-4 they'll be cheaper as well. Printing on both front and back will add expense. But if we provide the artwork as opposed to having them create something, that should help a little with costs.

I'm trying to see if I can find the font used by the athletic department anywhere to work on some potential designs.
We've already covered a lot of this. As I mentioned earlier, we probably won't be able to do any one-screen printing and still have it be legible. We'll need a white or gold base, and print on top of that.

I can tell you right now, you won't find the athletic font, so don't waste your time looking. It's an in-house custom-deisgned font called "Cyclone". I do have it (don't ask) but they are VERY strict about restricting its use. No screenprinter will allow us to use it, I promise. Believe me, I've tried. Our only option would be to use the wordmarks that you see on the Trademark website.

Providing the artwork will save us about $25-30, flat fee. If we're ordering 30 shirts, that's not really a big difference. I suppose we do have some good amateur graphic designers, so that might be an option. If we can't come up with something print-ready, though, I've always found it worth the money to work with a professional graphic artist and get a good-looking shirt.

Good idea on checking with print shops to see if they can wholesale order the shirts. It's not too likely- most places have a set catalog that they will order from, and don't deviate from that- but absolutely worth a try.

Yeah, I noticed that after I'd already posted. I also did some research into the Athletics visual identity standards and found the info about the font. Damn my having a real job that requires me to do real work instead of spending my time on this.

Really, most of the ideas that are being thrown around are just text-based, so there's not a lot of design/artwork that would need to be customized. These aren't as intricate as band shirts.

I like the idea of red/gold type cammo vs traditional colored cammo

Have we really reached the level of Beat Army t-shirts?

thats where I'm at. How about we wear our cardinal and gold and honor them after the game with a toast to our win. I mean, you guys realize this is Army's FOOTBALL TEAM coming and not Patton's 3rd Army. We don't need to do a welcome to Jack Trice let us get out of your way sir. Better suggestion, blind them with Cardinal and Gold, hit them coming off the bus, paste them on the field, and those of you that want to cheer them...cheer them back to the losers locker room after the game.

Is it really that big of a deal? IMO, it's done out of respect. I'm glad that we can get the armed forces teams at The Jack.

to me, it is just another team we need to beat to get to where we want to go. making them more than that is silly.

Respecting a military branch is silly? Put me down as being silly then. I want us to win the game, but to say it is another game is ridiculous.

like I said before. this isn't THE army it is their football team. Yes I know they are army cadets but my God, to we have to revere every team that comes in.

every player has to serve X number of years after the academy. They are part of THE future army.

but THIS thread is about making a shirt with an Army theme, not about Army or whether we should honor the cadets.

I like Stewo's idea.
