Where does the Twins play the Tigers at. If at minnesota then the twins have a better chance than if its at detroit. I still think that if the twina are to make the playoffs they will have to win the one game playoff to do it

The upcoming 4 game series is in Detroit. If the race ends up in a tie, the Twins would almost surely have to win at least one of the 4 in Detroit which would put the 1 game playoff in the Dome.

Depending how this weekend ends up... the Twins will need to win more than 1 out of 4 in Detroit. I know what you are saying, 1 win is all that's required to win the season series and have the playoff game at home but the Twins wont have a shot at getting to that game with only 1 win in the D.

Gotta be down 1 or 2 going into the series IMO... then take 3 of 4 to make up the 2 games to win the division.

So pumped. I'll be at the games this week.

Weather for the 1st two should be interesting, low 50s tonight, some rain showers with wind gusts up to 50mph, much the same tomorrow. Depending on the wind direction it could change the game. Blowing in should favor the Twins and the small ball... blowing out should favor the Tigers.

Nice - it sucks the weather will be crummy, but at least you'll be able to see some playoff caliber bball with a lot riding on the line. Will the Twins will have a good turnout of fans at the games in Detroit?

Realistically we're going to have to take at least 3 of 4 in this series if we want to at least push the one-game playoff. 3 of 4 puts us into a tie with Detroit and leaves us in control of our own destiny. A split doesn't eliminate us, but then we'd have to ask the White Sox to win a bunch of games for us, and with us having to face Greinke against the Royals, I don't like those odds. Anything less than a split and the season is over. Ideally I want a series sweep, but I'll gladly settle for 3 of 4.

There is usually a good spattering of fans around. This series not being on the weekend will hurt that though, but there should be enough to make some noise if things are going well for Gardy and the fellas.

Since I've been relocated out here, I've tried to make it a point to get to most of the games when the Twins are in town. Was fortunate enough to run into Nathan and Young at my local watering hole last time they were in town. Shared a Jameson shot or two with them.

Agreed. Tonights game sets the tone for the rest of the week. Gotta take 3/4.

Big Game Tonight - GO TWINS!!!! I like our chances as long as Liriano isn't on the mound (poor guy).

That loss yesterday really hurt. Unless Liriano finds "it" in the offseason, he's probably done as a Twins starter. Between Baker, Duensing, Blackburn, Pavano (if he resigns), Slowley, and Perkins, plus whichever veteran FA they may sign in the offseason, Liriano's not going to have much leash offered to turn it around.

Is there any chance we get Morneau back if we make the playoffs?

Yup - Liriano has done more damage to the club than he's helped the club this year. I actually feel bad for the guy b/c it seems like he puts so much d*mn pressure on himself and can never get comfortable out there. Some days it looks like he has the "stuff" and is throwing the ball well, but then 'BAM' - 3 run jack on a bad pitch and he loses the mental aspect of his game.

Makes me wonder if a man was actually meant to throw a 96 mph slider (the reason why he was such a "nasty" pitcher before he blew his arm out).

I got hell for bringing this up midyear. He just doesn't have the mental game anymore and obviously doesn't have the arm he did. Time to cut your losses with him this season.
Why did we mess with a good thing that has been going on? That loss was a big one and could be huge.

There wasn't a better option. Manship had stunk it up at that spot in the rotation the last several starts and Swarzak stunk it up in AAA since being sent down.

And yet, who did Gardy go to first to replace Liriano? I think he should have stuck with Manship at the start too. The Twins only had only lost one game that Manship had started (in Oakland), and that loss was as much the inability of the offense to produce that day as it was Manship giving up 4 runs. So, even though Manship did not have a great won-loss record (0-1), the team still managed to usually win when he started a game. KC is not exactly a great hitting team.....why not stick with him? Manship comes in yesterday, and actually pitched fairly well, so the fact that he did not start was just because Gardy thought he was over-whelmed. Liriano and Perkins, and to a degree Blackburn, seem to all be head cases this year, and Gardy and Anderson do not seem to be able to figure out how to fix them. It's a crap shoot every day it seems....and Baker is nearly that way.

Game postponed due to rain. What sucks is Mauer will not be able to catch both games tomorrow. Let's go TWINS!

Did Gardy say this? I know that would usually be the case but this is the pennant chase and Mauer will want to catch both. No point at resting him this late in the season.
