I am so proud to be able to watch and cheer for this team!!!!

Now, if they could avoid putting IcSyU on the video screen, that would be a nice improvement.

And if they could get the Cyclone Alley kids to do one pickle at a time. Cheating in Build-A-Burger destroys the integrity of this incredible game!

What was really funny on the broadcast tonight was watching the students pump up the burrito or pasta (whichever it was tonight) when the Mediacom broadcast didn't show the burrito or pasta.

A dumb activity looked even dumber.

We played a lot of players in all of the early games last year. 12 guys played in each of our first three games. By the time the season was winding down, we were wondering if anyone else besides Brackins could score. Gilstrap, Christoperson and Dendy have gotten off to a good start, but so did Wes Eikmeier last year. After what transpired earlier today, I'm going to try not to get my hopes up too high until we're a few games into the Big 12 season.

Is having too much depth going to hurt us at times? Its going to be very tough to choose who to play some nights and I know we'll have to leave some guys on the bench who could maybe be helping us. Probably thinking about this too much, too early but there is a reason coaches generally rely on only 7 to 9 players to cover most of the minutes in each game.

No such thing as too much depth. The biggest benefit is that we can be much more intense on defense. We have the ability to wear out our opponents. There will always be people wanting more minutes - it's only natural, but judging by the way the minutes have been spread out so far, it doesn't seem to be a problem.

I was totally impressed with Dendy. When you consider that he only played 15 minutes (about half as much as Brackins) and yet led the team in rebounding and was second in scoring, that is pretty impressive. Plus, he had only 1 turnover, a block and 2 steals. He could be a very special player for this team.

I was disappointed in the rebounding. Someone has to teach these guys how to block out and grab the ball, instead of tipping it around. Use your butts! Way too many turnovers, and I didn't think the defense was all that good. Idaho State played them even in the 2nd half, and ISU gave up 44 points in that half. That is not good.

Boozer I thought looked good. He always brings instant energy when he is in there. Colvin looked all right, but too many turnovers. Diante is looking to pass, which is all right but he still needs to drive, although that was difficult with the zone the other ISU played most of the night.

All in all, a good first game. Will be fun to see what happens Sunday. This is a much more athletic team than in the past. Just hope they can show improvement.

Random notes:

Was surprised to see Dorr playing tonight. Figured he would get a redshirt.

IMO this is still not the most talented team we've ever fielded, but it certainly is the deepest.

We really opened up the rebounding margin in the second half.

Once we become really good at running, we'll be really dangerous.

Gilstrap was more aggressive on the offensive end tonight. When he drives to the bucket, it's amazing to watch. He has a ton of upside in his game.

Offensive rebounding was great in the second half. Lots of "garbage" points.

Colvin - His first step is so fast that it seems like I momentarily black out. It's been a long time since we've had someone on the floor with his quickness. It'll be fun to watch him develop.

Really impressed with the athletism of Gilstrap, Dendy, and Christorpherson tonight. Also it seemed that everytime someone got beat on defense, it was Lucca, but he hit some nice threes and he also needs to leave the playmaking to the PGs and Gilsrap, he seemed to turn it over everytime he tried.

The only thing I'm more excited about than our depth this year is seeing if we truly have a coach that can COACH. He's coached us well enough to be in some games we shouldn't have been in the last 3 years, but that's not ideal. It'll be nice to see how he utilizes the weapons we have, and who he puts on the court in what situations. In the past because of our lack of depth he's always had a hard time even finding 5 guys to put on the court that could play in sync. Now he has all kinds of options and I for one am excited to see him actually get to coach.

From where I sit.....this Idaho State team would have beat last year's ISU offering.

Agree! At best we win that game by 5 points last year. They were a quick team and we would have been in trouble.

This team attacks the rim. We missed 3-4 dunks because they were either really difficult/amazing(Boozer) or fouled in traffic(Brack & Strap). I think this team wants to hurt the rim this year.

That wide open air ball he had right before the end of the half was pretty bad....

I think he means "bad" in the terms of selection. The shot was executed poorly but it was a good shot to take.

What are you talking about??? The 2000 team lost Rancik, and then Shirley.

It was the starting five plus Brandon Hawkins for a while. But they never went over eight deep.

This. Deep was never used to describe that team. Tough.

A lot of options this year. Dendy impressed, as did Christopherson. The biggest thing I think we still lack is a penetrator who can get the defense to collapse on him and distribute to one of the bigs for a throwdown. I thought we would see more of that out of Garrett by this time in his career

I hadn't been as excited as I was after this game, for probably 10 years. Now I don't even want to go to the games. I bought Kansas/Iowa State tickets at Lawrence the day after this game.

Hard to get on our fans for being excited for being anyone like that when we have been so bad for so long.
