LOL- Pretty sure that is a kid I coached. I guess he would be a couple years into college now.

so you guys don't care that you have to be donor in order to be a die-hard fan in the eyes of your AD?

Just curious cause I was shocked at that reaction by your AD (no, not because of our history)

Nope. But there is something to be said for the catch-22 that is involved with refusing to buy tickets in order to get a coach fired.

Why should Jamie have to appease someone that's not even a paying customer?

Do you think you could be a die-hard fan and not contribute to your college?

You are not a die-hard fan if you contribute nothing to the program (no season tickets, no donations, etc). You can still be a fan, but you are not die-hard.

No kidding, especially when he was clearly buying tickets 2nd hand, which nets the athletics department no money.

People, buy your tickets through the AD, that's the best way to help.

Did anyone stop to think that the writer of the email could share season tickets with someone else? (I realize he probably does not) We do that with our group. One person buys and other people use them? Is it a shock to think of something like that? Perhaps this guy (or hundreds others like him) would have bought season tickets or joined the Cyclone Club next year with his family. Now he will never be a donor or perhaps even support ISU anymore.

I think the response from Pollard is very short sighted. I realize current donors and ticket holders are paying the bills but responses like that alienate folks who in the future would have more cash available for donations and purchasing season tickets. I am sure the gentleman in the email has bought ISU gear (which supports the program as a whole) and has done other things to support ISU.

Pollard has been great for ISU, his is compounding his biggest mistake by keeping McD on board. I agree with about everything else Pollard has done for ISU except for the MBB program.

Of course you were shocked, because you're just like the guy who wrote the e-mail: You're not invested in the program in any way, but you think your opinion should matter.

I'm sure you'd love to roast Jamie over this e-mail, but I guess I'll have to wait until 4PM for your [over]reaction. Shouting and nervous laughter... Probably going to be a 1700 day.

not sure why you would expect anything different.

this is the hot - bed of Cyclone die hards.....and there is a 'bunker' mentality with the MBB developing.

Looking at it as an outsider, it probably wasn't the most appropriate tone to use. From Jamie's perspective, it's probably easy to take the approach of, "This guy doesn't pay the bills. Who cares what he thinks?" The problem is he probably shouldn't be flat out saying that is the approach he takes.

If Mr. Sukup sends that email, a different tone is taken -- but that would probably be true whoever the AD was.

I'm sorry if I'm stepping on my co-workers toes but I expected this to be a thread on here for sure. I didn't hear Miller and Deace today but this is crazy!

From their blog:

Des Moines' Sports Station - 1460 KXNO

reaction?

It's too bad Mr. Rainey didn't let it all out and get everything off his chest.

My thoughts are:

1. Pollard didn't have to respond to the guy, but he did. I'm not sure if he answers every one of his emails, but this tells me that he at least READS all of his emails and therefore has a pretty good idea what the mood of the fanbase is. People who have a ***** such as Mr. Rainey are more likely to write an email than those who are positive about the circumstances.

2. Just because Miller and Deace, and apparently Matt and Miller, are upset that Pollard is keeping McDermott around another year doesn't necessarly mean the vast majority of ISU fans feel the same way.
DISCLAIMER: I know there are some of you out there who would just as soon Pollard pulled the plug on McDermott. I can't argue with you. You are passionate about ISU and want the MBB program back to where battling for a Big 12 title and making the NCAAs is more the norm instead of the exception. I respect your opinions. I think if McDermott doesn't get it done next year, I will be right there with you holding the door open for him and wishing him well in his future endeavors.

I seriously doubt the only negative email was from this guy.

As to points 2 and 3, wow, he really gives it to this guy. Bravo, lol.

Of course, what if Mr. Rainey here *is* a season ticket holder or donor, but just doesnt have his name on it? (pooling together for a better NCC membership or buying tickets through someone with a higher donor level). I have a NCC membership, and buy my football season tickets through a higher level donor so i can get a better seat. As far as the athletic department knows, I sit on the hillside (friend bought tickets through me).

You can be die-hard fan and sit on the couch and watch but you don't get the right to complain about the program (especially to the AD) if you're not doing your part by donating.

If Jamie is being honest and this is real I find his response to be appropriate. I don't think that you have the leverage to write the email this guy did if you are not supporting the program in the ways mentioned by Jamie. He had the right, I won't argue that, but you cannot expect an answer different than the one Jamie gave.

I think if this is the case, Rainey would have fired back to Pollard, and another layer of e-mails would have been forwarded to KXNO.
