Who are these people who claim to want to keep Greg Mcdermott as our coach (for any reasons other than money)?

Out of the dozens of Cyclone fans I know, not a single one thinks Mcdermott will get it done. Not one. And I was in the small minority that thought he would get it done coming into this season.

Anyways, I know some on the message board think he is a good for ISU, but I am still not convinced that they are actually real people and aren't some sort of spyware or virus infecting the website.

Just as I thought.

JP is all about the $.

That is why Greg is still the coach.

I don't agree with keeping Greg...but I understand JP's predicament...and I think he is doing a good job in all other areas.

Its funny that you write re "JP's predicament".....Well boys when you give the coach an extension until 2015 and the coach cant win but 4 conference games and then you dont have the money to buy him out....

Maybe Jamie should look in the mirror.........

I dont blame Jamie for either Hiring Greg or Greg's Incompetence as a coach...

But I do BLAME Jamie for extending GMac's contract until 2015....

Not looking forward to more losing next year....But I've been there before with glen anderson/ ken trickey/ lynn nance.

My biggest problem with the e-mail is the money part. Maybe the guy does not have enough money because he has kids to support. Maybe he buys single tickets when he has enough money to go to games.
Just because you don't buy season tickets and your not a donor does not give Jamie the right to lambast the guy. Also last I check part of our taxes go to help support sports at Iowa State. So we are all boosters.
I thought about this one and now I really don't like what Jamie's response was. He is a state employee and should keep his mind on his job and not send nasty e-mails to Cyclone supporters.

Let me first say that I am a Cyclone Club member and Men’s Basketball Season Ticket Holder. I was also in favor of bringing Coach McDermott back next year especially in light of the budget issues our Athletic Department is facing. I am also fully behind Jamie Pollard and the job he continues to do as Athletic Director. However, he would have been best served to not respond to that e-mail. When sending an e-mail you have to assume that e-mail is going to be forwarded. While the fan may not be a Cyclone Club member and season ticket holder he does represent a large portion of our fan base. If choosing to respond to the e-mail JP should have given a positive, canned response similar to his original e-mail to Cyclone Club members and season ticket holders.

So for someone like me, who has been donating for over ten years, and now I refuse to due to the lack of production that this team shows. I am no longer a fan because I chose not to donate to failure???

Therefore I am no longer a fan of this College according to Pollard...HMMMMM.. Ok. I can go with that. tells me of his mentality to be a greedy bastard that wants people to donate for failure.
Actually, I think he would valkue your opinion. You have donated faithfully during good times and bad. Mr. Rainey has NEVER donated. Big difference. Big, big difference. And I doubt, Pollard would respond to you in the same way.

If you think not donating is the answer. We have the lowest athletic budget in the Big 12 and one of the lowest in all of BCS conferences and need all the help we can get. By not donating as a show of your "anger" you are doing nothing positive to help. Period.

Ok I will go with your very mature remark.

When people show there displeasure in a product and want a change, they wont keep buying it, they will stop ther purchase trend. The manufacture will then realize wait a sec, something is wrong here,we need to get these people to continue to buy our product. Failure to understand this I would love to sell you a product that failed too.... VIOXX.

When I donate I expect something in return. YOU donate and want nothing in return. I am not throwing money away because I cant afford to. Its all called investment. THIS investment is not working.

that was awesome! and true... i think its really funny that someone writes in who has never, ever purchased season tickets to basketball, and or most likely football. the reason why is because they acted as if ISU was going to be hurt if he didnt cheer for them anymore... sadly that just isnt true, no one cares.

I agree. Really not a well-thought out email. I think if JP would have stopped and thought about what he was saying for 5 minutes before hitting send, he would have backed off.

This.... If Gmac had his 6-year contract (which is plenty long to rebuild a down basketball program) without the asinine extensions we wouldn't be in the financial predicament we are now.

Simple lesson.... never sign a contract that could result in the coach getting an extension because one of your players has to sit out 6 games for driving the wrong car. That should be obvious but sometimes you have to learn the lesson the hard way.

9 years is definitely too long of an initial contract for someone who has never coached at this level. Just thank god Ross Marsden and Rashon Clark and Jessan Grey didn't also drive the wrong cars, or he would've gotten a 12-yr contract!

Pollard recieves tons of emails and I know he is busy as heck, He has a business and needs support for his actions. I can understand his fusterations when a plan does not work like it should.

LOL. This "investment" you are talking about is SPORTS; it's entertainment. Total apples and oranges - nice try though.

I would consider donaters to an athletic department more like investors, not customers. Without the investors there is no product, good or bad. More investors = better product.

I go to the games:smile: Sports radio/TV talk shows is different than game announcing. I just don't understand the appeal I guess. Why do I care what these guys think?

I'm a fan of good radio talk shows. I enjoy being able to listen to a good talk show host who engages the audience and doesn't demean them or stir up things just to get callers.
