A Must Read

You are wrong. When I was a kid, I leaned more towards the Hawkeyes. Once I saw the arrogance of their fanbase it was an easy choice. I'm am not kidding myself either. You picked this battle because a) you thought we as Cyclone fans would love to hear your opinion about our AD or b) you knew our fanbase was divided on it and you saw the safety in numbers.

My undies just popped out of their bunch.

I added my two cents because on the way home from work I heard the issue on the radio. I had an emotional reaction to what I heard on the radio. I felt like I should voice my opinion. I did so. As I said above, nothing I have added to this conversation is anything out of the ordinary or trollish. If my screen name was Cy#1NationalChampsBaby you wouldn't even look twice at what I said. Too bad some people can't go outside their comfort zone once in a while and smell the flowers...

I am starting to think JP knew exactly what he was doing. Judging by this post he has strengthened his support by many and has only upset a hawk fan and a couple people who may or may not even attend games.

Yahtzee! If someone puts down something I have poured my guts into and am passionate about, I would do the same.

If I don't like something, I don't buy it.

I attend plenty of games, and give money. I think what he said was ridiculous and embarrassing.

I like an outsiders opinion from time to time. Until they start acting like a jerk, which isn't the case here. He has represented himself well and all I see are jerk Cyclone fans.

Or maybe he's your buddy since you both are from Norwalk? Let's see, he just got done calling our AD a dipsh#t. Yeah, he's represented himself well...typical of their ilk.

I was driving home from school and I thought to myself "holy ****, I can't believe Pollard would write something like that."

What is the definition of giving in your book? If the guy has 10 articles of ISU clothing, an ISU license plate, maybe a couple of ISU window flags for his car, do those count? Sure, he's not donating like Jacobson, but every cent counts. He's spending his hard earned cash on ISU, indirectly, but still spending it. His opinion counts.

His opinion counts, just not as much as Mr. Jacobson's. Not even close. Had the kid made a better case for his arguments instead of turning it into a rambling factually incorrect ***** fest, he likely would not have received the response he did. It was a disrepectful letter, and thus deserved to be treated like one, even though it was not.

For the record..and my message got deleted when I wrote this but I showed my friend who graduated from penn state what pollard said. He's neither an ISU nor Iowa fan. He basically asked me "An AD isn't dumb enough to respond like that, is he?" and then called JP a "****." Said he doesn't like PSU's AD, but he at least doesn't respond like that to criticism (which is pretty big for basketball).

Don't confuse yourself, he's the same guy that only a few days ago on HN called me out as nothing more than a troll on CF, even though my record stands as usually only replying in "off topic" discussions. He being from where I live stands as nothing more than a coincidence. I just happen to agree with his stance. JP was wrong.

OK, I'm not bagging on people who can't afford tickets. They have every right to be a fan and I'm sure that JP encourages it. Every little bit helps. BUT, to think that your criticism should be taken seriously and then be offended when it's not is idiotic. It's not that your opinion is meaningless, but it shouldn't be thought of as super important either. It, justifiably, should rate pretty low down the ladder.

So if this kid didn't bash Scotty and DG, and just left it that he was upset and concerned with the direction of the team. Would people still be calling this kid a DB like everyard and others???

What happens if this kid someone had the cure for cancer in his letter to Pollard. (Just throwing something radical out there. Or maybe had a check for $2,000,000 in hand, written out to ISU) Would Pollard treat him the same way???

Who says this kid doesn't some day have $5,000 a year to donate, but because of Pollard being arrogant back when he was 20 decides not to donate??

Bingo...if you have a lot of money to give, you can basically make an AD of a program your puppet. A multi millionaire can say "If you don't do this, I'm not going to donate $5 million" and the AD might say "oh ****...that's mad money. I'm going to listen to this guy. This is good for our program!" But the guy might not actually know what he's talking about.

Which begs the question. Do people who say, buy season basketball tickets, really always know what they're talking about when it comes to basketball?

Of course not. But if you are a paying customer AND you send a halfway respectful letter, you don't get that kind of response. I've sent multiple letters to Pollard critizing various things. But I do it in a respectful way and I am a paying customer.

Spoken words can have a MUCH different meaning by simple voice inflection and empasis on a particular syllable. The radio guys appear to have made the response sound much worse than it likely was. I think you fell for the emotion and spin.

It seems like at least 7 out of 10 people in this thread think what Pollard did was the right thing to do, so there isn't any safety in numbers going on. There are people in this thread who think that Pollard should have taken the high road, but their voices are quickly drowned out.

I think Pollard should have taken the high road and not responded. I am not Jamie Pollard though. He did what he saw fit. So be it. Jamie Pollard is the AD for the University that I support. He was put there by the President of the University I support. If I had a disagreement with the way things were being handled, I might be inclined to let Jamie know my feelings but, I would never send that out to the media.

Yup.. All people from Norwalk are best buds... Heck I had him over for beer tonight. Duhhhhhhh.... He called our AD a ******* which I will agree with right now too... I don't believe he is one, just the way he handled it. He only came out and said that cause you guys keep pushing him and pushing him acting like his opinion is null and void because he is a Hawk fan.

He defended himself then you break him down more.

If the kid doesn't bash players and left it as he was upset and concerned, and JP STILL sent that response, then I think you and your buddy from Norwalk have a point. I'm sure that Pollard got plenty of emails during the season just like that. Probably many after each bad loss.

I didn't "fall" for anything. Your AD called out a member of the fanbase. WRONG!!! You don't do that! As AD, if you don't agree, ignore him or send him a generic reply, don't call him out.

Actually, hok fans' opinions ARE null and void here...at least for many of us. People with a vested interest in seeing our programs fail shouldn't be taken seriously on this board. A vast majority of them are idiots anyway.
