Again I ask, why should he go to the press to talk about an email posted on a radio station Web site?

.

If he actually wrote the letter he shouldn't. But if he is being accused of saying something he didn't say, why exactly would he let himself and his university take this beating?

Well, I was reminded yesterday via KXNO that we all pay taxes. Our taxes fund universities. Universities fund athletic departments. Athletic departments pay Athletic Directors! SO IN CONCLUSION: All AD emails from all AD's across the country should immediately be made public!! Damit I pay the taxes that let them have email in the first place! I have the right to see what they are emailing at all times!!

Disclaimer: This post is dripping with sarcasm.

You do realize all emails from AD's (in Iowa anyway) are public? So if you want to know what Barta's been emailing his fans, go ask for them. Gotta love the Freedom of Information Act.

Because some things don't deserve to be dignified with a response. Maybe JP did write that. But it's also very easy for a person to come out of nowhere and "fake" a response as well...

I took you seriously.

Jamie has agreed to CC me in all future emails. He agreed that by me paying taxes, I should have a voice in everything he does. I told him I need those emails! I will post them all on on my blog. Wait, I don't have a blog. Maybe I'll borrow one from KXNO.

Ok - let's just say he wrote the letter then....

He has no need to go to the media to clarify.

Some people think he shouldn't have wrote the email, others think he was well to do it.

Now what?

Yes, I heard that caller too. Matt thought he made a "Greeaaaattt point!" So do I. So as a tax payer in the state of Iowa, clearly the ADs must listen to me. I am very unhappy with the way Iowa's football players have behaved over the past few years so I demand that Barta fire Kirk Ferentz! I pay taxes, you have to do it!

I don't know anything about the ratings of KXNO but why even take a little beating for something you didn't say.

You mean to tell me that if this was you, you would just sit there while people are making up things you didn't say to make you look bad? I sure wouldn't.

It'll blow over in a few days/weeks and most likely come football season most people won't remember. There's a .000001% chance that this email will hurt future revenue. But that's still too high for something that could have easily been prevented . Like I said, I'm sure lessons were learned from this even if he believes he was right.

Haha, yeah they sure were excited.

I too demand better from the Iowa athletic department. I will setup a meeting with Gary this afternoon. After that convo, Kirk will be canned and his office packed by the end of the day, rest assured!

at my current job, yea I probably would speak up. but if I were an AD at a major university, probably not. should JP come out publicly to defend all of the untruthful things that have been said about him on this and similar ISU message boards by critics too? this is not a major issue what so ever. the fact that the host of the radio program berating pollard started this thread speaks volumes

There's lots of ways to handle things. I think this has gone public enough that if it wasn't true he should speak up.

For messageboards it's different. If it's a thread on a rivals board, just ignore it. If it's a small thread on one of your fan sites, ignore it. If it's a big thread on one of your fan sites, have an email exchange with the person/people who operate the site to get your side of the story out there.

I never said he had to hold a press conference or anything. A quick email/phone call to Chris would certainly do the trick.

Not trying to sound like I know it all, but having almost 10 years of professional experience in PR, if Pollard did NOT write the email, he should make a statement saying so, and also say something along the lines of 'we're investigating this matter and want to assure Cyclone Nation that whether you donate your hard earned money or not, we value you as a fan blah blah blah.'

This thread is still going?!?!

Everything that could be said, has been said, and the only person that is benefiting is a punk radio guy - in both unnecessary attention and CyBookie credits

Please - stop the madness!!

So did we ever find out if the e-mail was even real? Was it really Jamie Pollard? I'm not reading page 19s-55 to find out...

I'm sure if it wasn't, Pollard would have said something by now. I get that he was probably in Kansas City last night, but I would imagine that he has a Blackberry and can get to his email.

Yeah, because responding to whether he actually wrote an email to a fan that was posted on a radio station Web site should be at the very top of his list as opposed to budget concerns, negotiating contracts, the decision to keep McDermott a year, etc., ...you know, piddly stuff.

And yet it's still just an ASSUMPTION that he wrote it...

No. Just don't threaten withholding financial support that you don't have in the first place...

What if his parents (who apparently are long time season ticket holders) decide not to renew next year, or stop donating because of this response from Pollard?
