From an e-mail I got from JP 2 and a half years ago regarding the logo change (for whatever reason I held onto it):

Dear Jason,
Nobody said we were getting rid of the CY logo only that we were not going to use it as our primary logo - much like the schools you listed. For example, at Wisconsin, the Motion W is their primary logo and that is what is on their helmets, their football field and their basketball court. However they still have Bucky Badger.
The new Iowa State logo will be our primary logo for the athletics department. If you read our release or listen to our press conference, we did not say we were getting rid of Cy.
Thanks.

The e-mail response in question is complete and utter bull****....

Okay, I'm a big enough nerd to have emailed Pollard before. Here was a PICTURE of his entire email:

Check the title in the signature. Check the "from" email.

THIS THING IS FAKE. Honestly these guys should be apologizing to Pollard for falling for such an obvious dupe.

Edit: I blacked out my last name and email to protect the innocent.

Regarding the line: "I appreciate your caring enough to write me". That isn't the way I would've written the same thing. I would've written, I appreciate you caring enough to write me. Are both gramatically correct? I really don't know. But if his is incorrect, then is it possible that he refers to a generic Director of Athletics as Athletics Director? I mean, he could've just said "me", rather than referring to a role that he has. He was referring to the role, not necessarily himself.

Not sure if I made sense, just my $.02 that I think you guys are derailing the validity of Matt's absurdity when translating the message JP was writing. I compare what you're doing to the liberals saying that Bush created 9/11 or the birthers claiming that Obama wasn't born in HI. Fight the real fight, don't distract the point.

It's interesting that Jamie's alleged email response was typed in no less than three different fonts. It seems more than weird, more like unbelievable, that an official email from the athletic department would be typed in three different fonts. Not saying that that makes it fake, but it sure does look suspicious. Also the silence is deafening from the Matt Rainey and the radio guy's camp as far as producing an original genuine email from Jamie. Again that's not proof that it is fake, but is interesting.

We have 9/11 "truthers" and we have Obama "birthers".
What shall we call you guys?

Dear Josh,
Thank you for your email. I appreciate your taking the time to write me and for your continued support of our program. One of the best parts of my jobs is interacting with our fans, both in person and by email and mail. I make it a practice to respond to all inquiries and I have no plans to change that. Personally that is what I think sets us apart from most athletics departments. I know from my peers that they do not even read their emails from fans - they have someone do that for them. That will never be the case for our department - our fans need to know exactly what we are thinking.
As for my response, I stand behind it 100%. It was not disrespectful or rude - just honest, direct and to the point (and consistent to how I have responded to both positive and negative emails my entire career). If someone can't handle that than they should not have written in the first place. Quite honestly, those that write with the strongest negative opinions are usually the ones that are the most offended that someone actually writes them back with a contrary opinion (kind of like the bully on the playground that cries foul when someone stands up to them).
Thanks again for your email and your support. Go Cyclones!

I will give him one thing, he stands by the decision under what I can only assume has been some fairly intense backlash.

I respect the fact that he responded (and very quickly). I'm still not sure that I agree with the response but I will give him props for taking ownership.

Happy reading.

I would expect no other response. he will not apologize for not backing down. I really do wish he would have surprised one of the shows yesterday and explained that he never said the young man was not a fan. I would really like to see him sink his teeth into some of those guys. From what I have seen I think he would back them right down.

He would not be bullied thats for sure. As far as backing them down, I'm not convinced that you could change Matt P's mind once he has it mad up.

I was a little disappointed with Pollard's first response, but not with his response to you.

BRAVO!

Thank you very much for sharing. +1

I think Mr. Rainey needs to remember Atletic Departments are businesses now. The only people that businesses are responsible to are the shareholders (the ones who hold stock in the compnay). In this case the "shareholders," are the donors, season ticket holders, and ticket buyers. Thus I have no issue with JPs original email.

And yes, I was a first time season ticket holder last year for football and will be renewing sometime in the next week or two as well for the upcoming year.

Love both responses by JP, first to the email that was posted that started this near 1,000 post thread and the follow-up to standing by his email on this page. I imagine he gets a ton of crap email, and I don't blame him one bit for calling the initial guy out for not making any donations. (just wanted to get in before 1,000 posts hits....)
