Regrettably, I went to an off campus party in east Ames in '04 and missed the riots.

I graduated in 02 but had friends in grad school. We were in Peoples and at about 11 or so, someone ran inside yelling about the riots. The place was packed and all but about 20 people ran outside. Me being employed and no longer a student decided to stay inside. As soon as everyone ran out the bouncers locked the doors. They didn't let anyone in or out the rest of the night. At 2, the unlocked the doors and let us out. It was a pretty fun time inside b/c it was the older crowd that all knew each other and we had free beer/shots.

We were on Hunt St when everything went down, and headed to Story St when the cops showed. About an hour later, everyone at that party started getting texts and calls to get down to Welch and check it out, so basically there was a mass immigration.

We had some high school chick driving my buddy's car, and as we got to Sheldon and Lincoln Way, we could see the smoke, and there were basically people fleeing up the street. We tried to cut through campus to get the car parked, but we were blocked by a dropped light pole somewhere around LaVerne. When we eventually got the car returned, we walked up and just watched from a distance. Pretty crazy.

I passed out pretty early and woke up to a voicemail from my mom and a text from my buddy. Major bummer for me.

Sitting on our porch on wood st playing drinking games all day with people scattered all over the place. Grilling out listening to music. Going to the bars at night then coming back and drinking some more.
Waking up the next morning to find our entire yard littered with beer cans was all cleaned up by somebody who wanted the money. Then, proceed to do it all over again.
I miss being a college student.

Can somebody tell me why the campus BBQ doesn't start until tomorrow? And if its because of budget cuts, I say **** you VEISHEA committee. Those meals cost like 30 cents.

I see you graduated in 2008. How close did you live to the corner of Wood and Hyland at that time? Because I lived in 103 S Hyland, our back parking lot butted up to the back yards of Wood St at that time. We had pretty wild parties both nights that year, and we were drinking in the back lot for some reason that day, and there was a big day time party going on in a Wood St backyard. This dude who was just completely hammered saw us and came wandering over to drink in our lot, and about halfway there he stopped, puked, and then tripped and landed right in his puke.

I had a Kegger that night at my house on Lettie Street. I was also a manager at Taco Bell at the time(not to mention I was opening manager the next day)
But a friend had let me know what was going on and by the time I got to the store all the windows were broken. I got there in time to see the crowd of people running away and the line of cops shooting tear gas down Lincoln way. I had a nice view of that part of the riots.

Yeah that bummed me out too!! They aren't the greatest, but you couldn't beat 5 meals for 5$. I'll still be there tomorrow for burgers though!

Back when it really was VEISHEA, we were excused from class and we rolled over police squad cars.

I lived on Wood st during 06-07. But, we weren't really close to the corner of Hyland/wood, we were about 5 houses down on the North side of the street in a pink/peach colored house.
I do know some friends that lived on Hyland for a few years, you probably knew them, and I do think I remember seeing your van parked on Hyland every now and again.

Veishea in the 80's before the riots...I lived in a fraternity and can remember (I think) working on the float for months, having my GPA drop like a lead ballon, endless kegs! There was a event called Ash Bash back then that was an almost endless party at each fraternity along Ash. There were bands, 100's of kegs of beer and plenty of sorority girls! Drinking age was 19 back then, grandfathered when it changed to 21. To those that were in college in the 80's I do not think it could have been any better. We did not have to riot and set things on fire (at least not during Veishea) to have fun. It was usually late April so the weather was always pretty nice. If I remember right we got Thursday and Friday off. Holy **** it was totally awesome!

I was pictures of Ash Bash, each frat had its own party. I know my fraternity had a beer truck for every night, something like 22/32 kegs each night. That was Thurs, Fri, Sat night. Those would have been some great times.

I lived on Hunt in 04 and was pretty good friends with Pat and Adam the guys that had the party at the apts. It was common place to have an all apt. party there on any given day, cops caused the riot.
