Not so fast my friend.....there is a real question if FH will let CC come back. It will take a face to face and heart to heart from CC to convince FH that he is worthy to be on this team.

Obviously, Colvin would thrive in an uptempo style if he comes back.

Dendy would thrive like crazy.

Boozer would fit in well. He's aggressive about taking it to the basket in transition.
Diante seemed to do OK with it when we were doing it early last season.
Scotty looks to push the ball all the time as it is. He's naturally aggressive.

For the most part, I see this playing into the strengths of the guys that we have, at least those strengths. I'm sure that the athletic guys we're bringing in don't mind this bit of news at all.

I liked the way he talked about versatility more than anything. Going with the system that fits the team and also each given opponent. When you watch an NBA game, it's all about match-ups and they're not afraid to go to the same guy over and over again. The role players know they're role and know exactly what their job is. In my opinion, too many college coaches are system coaches and I don't think they're flexible enough to adjust to their talent.

I'm more happy to hear we'll be a simple offense. X's and O's are vastly overrated in college basketball. Need to make it simple and bring in talent that can just beat the other guy.

One huge hurdle "TEMPO" can really establish a recruiting style and if the system reflects in fast break points (DUNKS) or three pointers, thats great viewing on ESPN and that makes recruiting a lot easier....Plus he "Has every NBA GM on speed dial"......

We got TJ, we got Grayer who i think will be director of BB operations, then you bring in two quality asst coaches, one for recruiting and the other is an experienced guy.....not sure who's in freddys contacts but looking forward to hearing those two positions named!!!!

I loved that line about the GMs. Good stuff. Fred got connections, and he has respect all over the basketball world.

Doesn't every coach who takes a job say that they're going to play "up-tempo"?

If you don't have as much talent as the other team, your best shot at winning the game is definitely slowing the game down, limiting possessions. Coaches just don't like saying that on the record.

I agree people may be reading a little too much into the up-tempo quote.

Up-tempo can mean a ton of things. In this case it sounds like we are going to play solid defense. When that defense creates opportunities we will get out and run and look to get easy baskets. When we don't get easy baskets we'll likely have a good secondary break. When that's not there we'll pull out and run a good smart simple (guessing motion) offense.

Basically like most of the rest of the college basketball world. I doubt it meant we are be the second coming of Jerry Tarkanian's UNLV teams. The % of time breaking vs. secondary break vs. half court offense will probably be dependent on the talent and skills of the people on the floor as much as anything.

That said it sounds much better than our latest system.

Pretty sure in his first presser McDermott said he was not fond of running uptempo and wanted to make use of his thousand-page playbook...

I just think we'll see this team play twice as hard and twice as much passion under Hoiberg. The guys didnt seem like they liked playing hard under McD

Right but thats what the fans want to hear. How many people around here would be satisfied if he'd have said he planned on slowing the game down and the fans could look forward to some 55-52 ball games. Style is dictated by your personell and what the other team will allow you to do. Very few coaches can stick with one style and win, Roy Williams in one of the few who comes to mind and its bit him in the rear several times in his career. I could care less how we play, as long as we win.
