I agree people may be reading a little too much into the up-tempo quote.

Up-tempo can mean a ton of things. In this case it sounds like we are going to play solid defense. When that defense creates opportunities we will get out and run and look to get easy baskets. When we don't get easy baskets we'll likely have a good secondary break. When that's not there we'll pull out and run a good smart simple (guessing motion) offense.

Basically like most of the rest of the college basketball world. I doubt it meant we are be the second coming of Jerry Tarkanian's UNLV teams. The % of time breaking vs. secondary break vs. half court offense will probably be dependent on the talent and skills of the people on the floor as much as anything.

That said it sounds much better than our latest system.
Think maybe pro up tempo might be what we see?

I'm more happy to hear we'll be a simple offense. X's and O's are vastly overrated in college basketball. Need to make it simple and bring in talent that can just beat the other guy.
Hope we are so up tempo we do not have to run those stagnant out of bounds plays that never worked in the last four years.:biglaugh:

He probably means up-tempo is his goal. If he forces up-tempo next year he's going to get run out of the gym by a lot of the Big 12 teams. He probably meant that he will recruit for up-tempo but play a little more possession basketball next year.

When he says uptempo, I'm thinking he means we won't be watching Garrett walk up the court with the ball, crossing the time line at 27 every play, no matter what the defense was. I'm thinking of 3 wide down the court, passing it across, with the wide open 3 from the wing as the defense adjusts.

You know, like the early 90's, when Larry Brown couldn't beat us at home. I remember those games, and I look forward to more of them. Garrett-Boozer-Christopherson are more than capable of running that transition offense. We haven't seen that since 2000. Although that was a Eustacy team, it sure resembled the Johnny Orr days. He knew how to play to a team's strengths. I'm sure Hoiberg appreciates that aspect of the game, as NBA teams are built in that way, draft and trade for strengths.

This looks better and better all the time. Can't wait until the kool aid effect wears off, and I can come back down to earth.

I think people might be confusing uptempo with quick shots. Getting the ball up the floor quickly and keeping the pressure on the defense with secondary break, motion offense until we create a good shot seems to be what he is talking about. I love that style of play....frankly I'm glad to hear that. Running at all costs like Mizzou can hurt your defense, what Freddy is talking about does not.

How can any of you say "what Freddy is talking about" based off of a short statement? All we know is he prefers an up-tempo style game where we can get easy baskets before the defense has a chance to set. That's all he said. Don't put words in his mouth.

He's knows what he's doing. You sure wouldn't say your going to slow the game down and value every possession. He knows he's talking to the fans and recruits. He's a smart guy, he's not going to run at all cost. He'll probably try to push it down the floor and if nothing is there, work for a good shot. Pretty much what 90% of the teams do.
